Default Columbus = Worst Ohio Metro Area for Crime

Cleveland and Cincinnati seem to get most of the bad press for crime, but when you consider the entire metropolitan areas instead of just the cities themselves, Columbus is the worst in Ohio. For 2008, the Columbus metro area was ranked as the 67th worst of 338 nationally. Meanwhile, Cleveland was the 100th worst, Toledo the 110th worst, Cincinnati the 162nd worst, Dayton the 167th worst and Akron the 174th worst.

imo thats what makes cleveland metro a better place .. we all know the inner cities of america have thier high crime/ghetto areas and the 3-c's are no different. but other than the city and a few higher crime inner-ring suburbs, its easy to avoid the violent crime here in our metro. maybe thats due to the hyper-segregation along racial, ethnic, and religious lines throughout the cleveland metro.. newer cities that dont have many suburbs or have smaller metros will have higher crime throughout because of a smaller metro population. remember they use the per capita formula.

Columbus city takes up a much larger portion of its metro area than Cincinnati or Cleveland do, and also it's a much newer metro which usually will have higher crime rates than similar sized more "matured" metros like Cleveland or Cincinnati.

I also have to point out that at least in Clevelands case, the most dangerous cities in the metro do not report their crime properly, if at all. For example, Elyria would be higher than it is, Lorain and East Cleveland especially would be much higher because they don't report it right, if at all (in East Clevelands case).

If Columbus didn't include all the suburban areas it would also be higher on the city list (as more dangerous). I'm guessing it would be around where Cincinnati and Dayton are (25-30 ranking).

Outside of Lorain, Elyria, and East Cleveland.. there really isn't anymore dangerous suburbs though...... there are 75+ safe ones.

Default Cleveland crime, and all the 3 c's

I was born in ohio and have lived in 12 states and in italy in my life, i'm back in ohio now in Westerville which is northern columbus burb.... in ohio it very very cut in dry where the crime is and will always be .... in cleveland you know to stay away from east cleveland that is where all the projects are you need to use common sence, but every single burb of cleveland except maybe excluding mayfield hieghts is safe... on the west side you have Westlake, ohio which is 98% safer then other cities in the country and has soem of the best schools in the country ..... Columbus is the same way there are parts like the oaks and the east side you need to stay away from at night, but italian and merion villiage and the whole campus area is pretty safe, and again all most all the burbs are very very safe excluding maybe white hall and grove city .... Dublin, westerville, new albany, canal winchester all very safe and nice communities ..... that is one thing i really loved about ohio is that you can always leave 15 minutes from huge metros that have the entertainment and dont have to worry about crime.... in the miami area unless you in a half million dallor house in a rich area ...crime and drugs were pretty much everywhere

v8aarons, imo your post is inaccurate. first off east cleveland the suburb and the east-side of cleveland are separate areas. projects are on all sides of cleveland including some suburbs. mayfield hts is safe.. in columbus , grove city is safe and quiet not unsafe. just sayin
