Help! Need info on towns southeast of Toledo!
Hello! It looks like we may be moving to the Toledo area and I need some info from someone who lives or has been there. We are looking for a place with low crime and that is WELL kept up. We need a Wal-Mart close by, hopefully will be close to a Best Buy, Lowe's, Petsmart, etc. If you have ever been to North Carolina, near Charlotte, that is what I am looking for. I am looking into the following towns/cities so far: Sandusky, Fremont, Port Clinton, Monroeville, Norwalk, possibly the Berlin heights area. I need to be no more than an hour and twenty minutes from Toledo. If anyone has pictures please post them! Need help soon.

OMG, You'll love Port Clinton then, lots of wonderful wineries, loads of summer fun and just a stone throw from everything. Although I'm not sure about the Best Buy or as we call it around here "Worst buy", because they sell lots of junk that had to go through the factory twice, HH Gregg's is a far cry better store.

Do know about any flooding issues there [port clinton]? Or for that matter, are there any flooding problems in the places I listed? How bad does Toledo flood?

In addition to Monroeville, maybe check out Milan; both are small and not too far away from the big box stores near Sandusky. Norwalk is a nice small-sized city with more affordable housing. Also, Huron is a bit pricier, but it's on the lake. These towns are closer to the Cleveland area than Toledo, so you might want to consider that for your commute.

Having lived in the state of North Carolina, I am fairly familiar with the Charlotte area. Ive stayed in Concord, NC once as well as Kannapolis and Gastonia also Salisbury, NC. Actually Ive traveled throughout most of the state. Im also a native of Toledo, OH and know the area very well. There are really no areas outside Toledo that are similar to the suburbs of Charlotte. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg area is alot more progressive and has alot more populated suburbs. The areas outside Toledo are more farmland and agricultural with alot of open space and corn fields. The cities you've mentioned are actually small towns southeast of Toledo more similar to places like Salisbury and Highpoint. Sandusky would be a great option. Its actually halfway between Toledo and Cleveland and is also home to Cedar Point Amusement park. If your looking for somewhere comparable to Charlotte or Raleigh, NC then I would suggest Cleveland or Columbus.... Cleveland is actually an hour and a half from Toledo about the same distance as Greensboro to Charlotte.

Flooding isnt much of a problem, but it does happen and sometimes pretty bad. Toledo hasn't had any real bad flooding problems for a while now, but areas outside Toledo such as Findlay, OH has been hit pretty hard recently from floods. Toledo used to be swamp land so flooding can be a problem at times especially it being so close to Lake Erie.

Thanks alot lastonestanding! Do you know if the flood isn't as bad in the areas north or northwest of Toledo? Like Holland or Sylvania? And, for some reason, I think I got Ottawa Hills and Ottawa confused. Can you tell me the difference between them? I know one floods, does the other?

Flooding isnt much of a problem in those areas, flooding isnt much of a problem in Toledo. The only reason why flooding might be a problem in Toledo is because of the city's infrastructure and sewers backing up when it rains real hard nothing comparable to the flooding on the Outer Banks of North Carolina when it rains. Ottawa is the county in which the city of Port Clinton is located although there is an Ottawa city located somewhere southwest of Toledo or west of Findlay, Im not too sure about that place its fairly small and Ive never been there. Ottawa Hills is a village located inside the Toledo city limits, but its actually considered a suburb of Toledo and it is a very expensive place to live. I actually like to call it Toledo's Beverly Hills. I hope this helps some.

The Ottawa about 30 minutes west of Findlay has the Blanchard River running through it. It flood pretty badly.

Thanks it helps alot! I have been looking and looking to find a area with at least low level risk of flooding! You have been a big help!
I just came across a place called Old West End, do you know much about it? It sounds interesting, but it's hard to tell on the computer.

Oregon has a Wal-Mart and is close to Toledo. Rossford has a Best Buy and is also close to Toledo. Flooding is a minor issue in northwest Ohio. Winters can be miserable though.
