In fact, Route 2 between Huron and Amherst was being resurfaced.
Your quite welcome, I've helped to up-date Routs 2 from time to time. And SR 23 & 30 down around Upper Sandusky.

Default Really

Your blaming the cities ? The federal money goes to the state ,
The state looks at different projects and then gives out the money
for the projects, ALL project under the stimulas plan , had to be shovel
ready , Now here in Northeast part of the State , odot only had
50 years to plan for the replacement of a major freeway bridge ,
a bridge that needs to be replaced , They Choose to spend all of that money geared in helping to get that replacement happening , and sent the money to " Shovel Ready Projects , YOU know which bridge cause you can't drive on it

No, I'm usually driving under it to get stone. But I do know which one your talking about, and it needs help really bad. I feel bad for all the small businesses that will suffer during its overhaul.

Earthbound, I feel bad for you guys that have to put up with the idiots that don't read the "TRUCKS ENTERING AND EXITING" signs and slam into the back of construction vehicles. But I'd better get back on topic; here on the I-75 corridor, construction is humming right along on some major projects; the I-70/75 interchange, the I-75/OH Route 4 junction and two I-75 widening projects between Dayton & Cincinnati . Personnaly, I'm all for mass transit spending as well as for roads (I've got some ideas where the money could come from, but that would make OTHER special-interest groups mad...)

I've worked on the I-75 north of Findlay on night runs, and your right people never slow down or do as the signs say. One can only pray that they get to go home to thier families in one piece. The work is starting to whined down early this year because of lack of funds to complete the baddly needed repairs.

Why in the hell should we invest in such an expensive method of transportation?

Why is the average annual cost to upkeep an automobile around $3,000 ... a fraction of what the car is worth in the first place? Why would we invest in an infrastructure that relies on foreign oil that builds Dubai's metropolis? Why should we fund an infrastructure that promotes 1 driver per SUV, per commute? Why would we invest in an infrastructure that made headlines in the USA Today, because asphalt is made of oil and oil is too damn expensive to afford to repair damaged roads?

The OP seems to be slamming Cleveland more than anyone, but from my book Cincinnati & Columbus are the idiots here, ridding the city of its massive streetcar system (Cincy) and voting down a massive light rail plan (Cincy).

We're the f$#king idiots here, and we're paying for it. There should be no way in hell that a metro of 2.1 million people should have some of the worst traffic congestion in the nation ... think about it. 2+2=4

Hey, take a chill pill, and ease up on all the curseing, this isn't MySpace ya know .

Now, if you look at what the money was sent out for it was to keep MORE people working that DON'T depend on the Cities tax dallors, they depend on mostly federal tax money. And you know as well as the rest of us that most cities streets and surrounding roads are in bad shape. The same roads are needed to keep the daily frieght moving by the bigrigs ie, food, medical supplies, building supplies and the list goes on and on. Thoughs same roads when kept in good condition help folks to get to thier jobs and back home again. If they're falling apart those same folk can trash thier cars or they can get into a bad accident and what about the children that ride on buses on the same road we try to keep in good shape.
So, in short, the roads, highways and streets are the bloodline of the nations commerce and transit system. Trains can only get it there to a limited point, trucks get it to the exact point and the roads help you get it to you home. And we help to keep thoughs roads in good shape so it can all happen.

Please don't get me wrong, I think that a inner city or city to city transit system is a great idea for many reasons. But it still won't happen if you don't have the roads and highways to get the equipment and supplies were its needed to buid it

You're assuming that I am not considering that less sprawl/white flight and better inner-city public transit = less automobiles on our nation's interstates and highways which in return = less wear and tear.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't invest in the highway/interstate system, nor am I saying that we don't need truckers, I'm saying we have too many people using these methods of transportation that shouldn't be (i.e. the soccer mom in the big black Lincoln Navigator riding solo)... if you don't believe me, go to the local Pilot Gas station and ask a truck driver.
