Well, there's not really a Marietta presence on these boards that I know of, but from what I've heard, it is a stellar community and has recently been ranked a "best Ohio town"-(Ohio Magazine).

Default Well I can tell a lil bit about it.............

In general depending on where you are coming from and what you expect, you probably will like it.

I don't live that far away, 50 miles or so, on occasion get down there, mostly for shopping. Nice lil town. I do get to read its local newspaper in our library. I guess I would call it a safe town, is a center for its area for shopping and services.

Many of the locals where I live go there, either for hospitals or shopping. Some of them have moved there and didn't survive. You are talking Washington County. The rub might be it is far more regulated than most counties in the SE Ohio. Has many of the negatives of other towns on the River. Downtown parking situation can not be good at times.

Part of their problems came in a few floods. FEMA came in and demanded a lot more regulation in all sorts of areas. Far to anal for my likes. I know a couple contractors that lived there and moved out because of what they described as a paperwork jungle. You do have to keep it in mind that the area can flood when selecting a house. Put that at the top of your list.

The weather also is typical of a river town. You get more extremes than the counties close by with more upland elevations.

Maybe the best way to track what is going on prior to moving is read their local papers and websites. Housing is not expensive compared to most of the rest of the country.

But in general I tend not to go that way for most things these days. I have about the same choices 50 miles away to the north. If I moved would probably go more north to neighboring counties. Noblle or Belmont would be the choices. All depends on what you want and expect. Good lil town that packs most things a fellow might want into its own envelope. You got another major population center in Parkersburg with good access to all the more rural areas of WV and SE Ohio in a very easy day out type trip.

In general you probably will be well pleased with the area. A good choice for a town of that size anywhere in the USA. Why did you pick this as a choice to move too???

Believe it or not...we used to go down there for vacation growing up. My father LOVED the Riverboats.

Though I don't know too much about it, I have some good memories or Marietta.
