A decade has gone by since we stayed in some Old Man Cave Chalet rentals. Cross Creek and Slopeside share a drive but were both quite nice, Pioneer and Pine Creek also share a drive but are nice, The Elk which is a modified A-Frame that sits by itself just off the road, and the Settler which has a nice view but is close to a busier road). Our daughter has rented the Little Cola Cabin several times and loves it. There are two, divided by a hill, but I'm not sure which one she actually rents. She did report that Hunters Retreat at Serenity cabins should be avoided because it smells of sulphur water. We will be renting the Cabin on the Pond at Honey Fork Cabin rentals soon and I expect it will be fabulous.
Many chain restaurants are located in Logan and Lancaster, like the burger joints, Bob Evans, KFC, etc. I've yet to find a privately-owned restaurant worth recommending, but I'm still looking. Part of the fun is trying different ones. Some have decent food but the restaurant itself is not much to brag about (like Todd's Mountain View Restaurant in Lancaster) while others have a nice ambience and decent enough food but still not worth bragging rights (like Tee Jays in Lancaster and Olde Dutch Restaurant in Logan). Hocking Hills State Park has a dining lodge. I believe they offer buffets on the weekend. There's the new Millstone BBQ place in Logan, but I haven't checked it out yet. It's located across from the Visitor Center. That's a very nice Visitor Center by the way. Be sure to stop there for more information. It's located on Route 664 just west of US 33 at Logan.
As for activities, hiking is what it's all about there! Don't miss the trail around Old Man's Cave on State Route 664 west of Logan. There are several Riding Stables and a couple of Canoe Liveries in the area. Even a brand new Zip Line that my daughter said was fun. Check out Rempel's Grove on State Route 664 just to the east of US 33 as you enter Logan. It has a hotel (Baymont Inn & Suites), Amish restaurant (Olde Dutch), ice cream parlor, miniature golf, antique store, craft mall, glass shop and canoe livery all sharing the same parking lot. A Christmas Shop and Windchimes Shop are next door to each other on Ilesboro Road (a pretty drive between State Routes 93 and 374), if you enjoy gift shops. More shopping at Hocking Hills Market right on US 33 near Rockbridge. There's an Amish furniture store, craft mall, antique mall, etc. There's a cute diner there, but it was closed when we went by recently, looking to be out of business. Lake Logan isn't much to look at, but it does have swimming in season.
If you are in Lancaster, be sure to check out the short steep trail in Rising Park (on State Route 37) that has a beautiful view overlooking the entire town and surrounding knobs. Lake Loretta is pretty at Alley Park on Old Logan Road on the southside of Lancaster just west of US 33. There's a small covered bridge approaching the nature center there. South of Lancaster off US 33 is Clear Creek Metro Park (turn at the Sunoco gas station). This is a must-drive for any first-timer. You will ride under Lean (leaning) Rock and further down is Written Rock, which looks like it belongs out west somewhere. The Barnaby Hambleton Day Use Picnic Area at the farthest end offers a shelter house and flush-type restrooms and a steep trail to Lake Ramona. A little secret: just west of the entrance to this picnic area on the main road is a pulloff where you can park and hike a short trail to Lake Ramona.
