Question Info on Ohio suburban areas

Hi all. My husband is being relocated due to his job. My husband, my four children and I are moving from St. Louis MO to West Virginia/Ohio/Kentucky. In that tri-state convergence area. The closer to Huntington WV the better. I am looking for a nice suburban area that is safe and has young families and isn't in the boonies. I am looking for houses in the $200,000- $300,000 area and there must be close by chain stores and hopefully a community college so I can complete my studies. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can you tell me about Ironton, Hanging Rock and South Point? Are they suburban or out in the boonies? Thanks for reading?

I'd say boonies, but I could easily be wrong for the towns you mentioned.

I'd look near I-64 in Huntington for an area like that. There might be some nice stuff by their art museum.

Yeah, Hanging Rock actually has a thread here at City-Data, as a place with a very corrupt PD. Ironton is a dying old industrial town, and South Shore is right across the river from downtown Huntington.

Daytonnatian recommendations are correct. Check out the area around the art museum and park up in the hills, along I-64. I also hear Barboursville might be OK.

I think there is a community college in nearby Ashland KY, and there is Marshall U right in Huntington proper.
