Default Chillicothe: Recording Workshop

OK, here's my questions:
1. Can anyone connect me with somebody who has graduated from Recording Workshop who is employed in the industry?

2. What kind of reputation does the school have locally?

3. Employment? Has Chillicothe been hit hard by the recession like the major Ohio cities? If there's a local Wal-Mart I could transfer...

4. On a minor side note, what's the city like? Are there any good churches? Is it a family town, college town, dumpy ghetto town?

Really, I just want to know as much as possible about the school. I'm from central Nebraska so just to visit it will take lots of time and money for me so I'd like to find out as much as I can while sitting on my bum at home. Thanks!

1. i know a couple of people who went there. one is in the marines, the other records as a side gig in northeastern ohio. this is not due to their lack of ability, but due to the change in market whereby people are able to record on their laptops and such. 2. school is held in high regard... 3. , but you will not find recording gigs locally for sure. being an outsider, it may be harder to find jobs at all. there is a wal-mart in town. 4. small appalachian city.

I grew up in Chillicothe and know a number of people who went throught the program. Otterbein College's Music Dept has a close relationship with the CRW for their audio engineering students, so you know that with a quality program like that, there's some "there" there.

It's got a great reputation, but in a small town like Chillicothe, there's not a lot of demand for their services. Most of their big projects come in from out of town. If I were you, I'd plan to come to Chillicothe, get my training, and move on to another place with a sustainable job market with demand for my industry.

As far as what the city's like in general: it's a small town with a lot of charm. There are plenty of churches (I personally reccommend The Vineyard for Non-denominational worship, Walnut St for UMC and St. Peter's for Catholic) so you'll have your pick. Night life is limited, as usual in a small town, but there are a couple of great bars that have decades of charm, specifically the Crosskeys. There's movie theatres and shopping, bowling and every restaurant known to man. The Majestic Theatre is a beautiful old place that mounts community theatre productions, live music, and occasionally movies. It's a beautiful rural town, with lots of places to go tromping through the woods nearby.

If you do come, you have to try three food-related things: 1) Hirsch's Apple Cider. It's to die for. I can't buy any other kind, they've so spoiled me. 2) Jerry's Pizza. It's legendary. 3) Crispie Creme Doughnuts. They're the best on earth, light years beyond that Krispy Kreme Krap.

Good luck!

Thanks, that's quite helpful. I was planning on moving to a city with a better music scene. I'm flexible, I've been moving all my life, so starting over again won't be that big of a deal. Do you know if Columbus, OH has many employment opportunities in the field?
