Yeah in Toledo they banned it in public places and restaurants unless places had a separated (glass enclosed) section, and at that time, bars were exempt.

"There was furtive defiance of the ban elsewhere last night at some of the city’s bars. Men and women quickly tapped out the glowing tips when they spied an unfamiliar face with a notebook and questions.

Confusion was evident about who, bartenders or patrons - it’s both, actually - could get cited if patrons are caught smoking inside.

The ban affects about 1,500 bars, restaurants, and bowling alleys in the city. Opponents tried to force a referendum but failed."

I'm moving to Ohio in a few months, and I'm really happy to hear about the statewide smoking ban. I don't need government to "protect" me from myself, rather, I'd prefer that smokers have a single iota of consideration for others who don't want to breath in their smoke. Thanks Ohioans, for helping people to mind their manners!

Last I heard, there is a statewide ban on smoking in any public place with no exceptions.

Ohio does have a smoking ban, but here in Toledo you can still go in bars where there is smoking. It just depends where you go...it's not being enforced very well.

I am soooo happy I moved before this ban went into effect!!!! I also don't like to come out of a public place reeking of smoke (even though, yes, heaven forbid, I am a "smoker), but I truly feel it should be the owners decision! If they have all the "proper" ventilation equipment in place & it works properly, they should be able to decide for themselves on this issue. There are enough non-smoking establishments around that people who don't want to be around it don't have to be, they just have to choose not to go into them! I like to be able to go into a bar or pool hall, & have a cigg. with my drink For all of you that are so happy about this ban, just wait, this is only the beginning, next they will start on how bad alcohol is, then will come the extremely high taxes (they're already starting on that), and then the bans will begin on that too!!!! Then they'll move on to the next thing that they want to take away our rights on & this time it could be something you enjoy & can't believe that someone else thinks they can decide for you if you should or can have it. That won't be so great, will it????

BRAVO!

A major point you made that deserves repeating: for everyone who's celebrating the Nanny State's crackdown on cigarette smoke, just wait 'til the self anointed do-gooders that "know what's best for us" decide to come after your favorite activity!!!

Alcohol? Snuff? Casinos? Firearms? Fishing? SUVs? Motorcycles? Air conditioning? Deodorant? Driving faster than 55 MPH? Camping in certain national parks? Soft drinks/coke/pop? Cheeseburgers? Potato chips? Fast food in general? Flourescent light bulbs? BBQ grills—gas or charcoal? Living room fireplaces? Franklin stoves? Old-fashioned toilets that flush more than 2 GPF?

I'm not making this up! ALL of the above named items are in the sights of some meddlesome group of busybodies or another, lobbying the gov't for restrictions or bans.

The more laws we pass, the less freedom we have!
