My main complaint is that this board is set up so folks who want to discuss living and/or working in various areas of the country can get some insights, instead of discussing this drivel.

I have relocated a few times in the past 35 years, and would love to have been able to go to a discussion board where I can gain some insights from residents concerning places to live without political combat. While stating that a place is relatively liberal or conservative is OK based upon statistical data to back it up, in my view the pejorative comments associated with either orientation is out of place for these discussions.

A specific area has been set up in the board where folks can go and heatedly debate politics to their hearts content, and froth away all they want. Why not keep those discussions there, instead of working them into the boards set up to discuss areas of the state or country?

Baiting by using the ACLU or other organizations is childish, and irrelevant to the topics discussed. In reflection, this whole thread probably should have been in the politics section of this forum, not the locations discussions.

I agree that discussions about particular areas (cities, states, neighborhoods) should remain purely informational, as that's the whole purpose of this forum—well, most of it. At least that's how I understand it.

But if a certain thread starts out with a political topic, is it really off-limits to debate/discuss it? I mean, this one actually began with a question about the OH Patriot Act, a controversial subject by its very nature. ...Which curiously enough, all of us seem to oppose so far, albeit for different reasons

I'm not trying to be rude or shoot down your ideas at all, though, and I do concur that neutral discussions about geographic locations should be just that...neutral!

All the best,
Lanc

PS - One other thing: in making decisions about where to live or spend one's time, to some folks politics is a factor. The political/cultural atmosphere of any given place does comprise a part of its character. And if you're considering living somewhere, it might be important to know the political bent of your future neighbors before settling there, if that's important to you. For some it is; for others, not so much!

Default Clarification

Agreed Lancaster, and it is fine to say that an area tends towards liberal, conservative or centrist if you have electoral data to back it up. That is different than stating what was said about the ACLU, which really is a subjective opinion as opposed to an objective comment.

In reading this board the past few months you provide a lot of accurate, good and comprehensive insights into the various central ohio areas and towns. Why cloud it with the other stuff? You are certainly entitled to your point of view and beliefs, and I respect this. But others see things differently, and this needs to be respected too.

An area in the forum exists to discuss politics and various specific topics within politics to your heart's content, and you may find that area of interest, below is the link to the area:
