I'm loving the figure the dash out game! LOL. Conneaut is close to or right on the lake. right?
The girls and us would love to see the carp, so we'll keep that in mind. Better than getting nipped by a goose or duck. And less mess. Where is the causeway located?
We'll stay away from the nuclear plant.
You all are so much help. I really, really appreciate all the tips and everything.

Hey Austin,
Well Conneaut is by the lake but it is about 1 hr from you (43 miles). It's kind of one of those "been there done that" kind of places. I am not sure if your kids will like it that much.
Heck, I'd drive the other way 2 hrs and take them to Sandusky. That is were Cedar Point is...google that and see what they say! LOL Also there are some cool islands up there that you can take a Ferry over to. Kelly's island has Glacier Grooves, Put N Bay is one of this summer towns with golf carts and bikes, etc. Bars, shops, etc. Cool place to go. The kids will have a blast there and you can camp there at a state park so it's cheap.
Yeah, stay away from Perry....My Mom works at the Painesville Courthouse, and they would all bring in veggies from their gardens to share with their co workers..well there was a guy who lived in Perry and he would bring in his and they were the size of small cars! LOL No one took his. Wonder why. I actually think they used to pay people to move there or give them cheap loans or something. I'm not sure on what it was.
Now about the carp...you gotta see this...it's in Linesville which is on the Ohio/PA border. It's called the Linesville Causeway and remember they rent boats there also and you can spend a day at Pymatuning Lake.
Anyway, since you like the dot dash game...see if you can get this one.....POST dash Gazette dot com forward slash PG forward slash 06190 forward slash 704548-37 dot stm
You have to check that one out. That is an idea of the number of fish there. You guys will all freak out. It is so gross. I think there are places tghat sell stale bread around there but we used to just save ours up and bring it. We also brought them frozen peas and they loved that.
There is another thing that is kind of cool for you and your family to do. OK readY? CLAYSPARK dot COM This is about 1.5 hrs from you. It is a water park camp ground tha tis cool to camp at but in Sept for 3 weeks they have t his thing called "Yankee Peddler Festival"....it is in the woods at this campground. There are artisians from all over the US and they make made made things from colonial days. They have to dress either like an indian or a pioneer. There are around 300 booths set up in the woods and you walk and walk and walk...they have shows, awesome food, like corn on the cob with the husks on them dipped in butter, homemade ice cream, etc. Anyway, it is a cool thing to get out and walk around in the woods and spend a day looking at these things peole made. You can buy a beautful hand made dresser for $600 or a jar of home made apple butter for $3.00 so there are all kinds of prices but everything is nice.. there is no just at this festival.
They shoot cannons, have simulated battles, and demonstrations on how they make all these items they are selling. Even men love to go to this festival....it's not a typical "craft show".
Also I wanted to tell you...those 2 colleges I spoke of are not the only ones here. They are just really close you to and are both good schools. We also have Case Western Reserve, Baldwin Wallace, John Carrol, etc. There are may to choose from.
OK That's my 2 cents for now....let me know what you think of that fish picture! It is so gross and when you are there in person...they make all these little noises with their mouths....You will laugh!
Have a good night!

OMG!!! I just looked at the picture of the carp. Just a few of them! WOW
Will want to go see that in person I think??
Thanks for letting us know what areas to kind of look and at what areas to really look at. Hopefully the move goes well and we find just what we are looking for.
My husband loves to fish, so we should have enough water around to make him happy.
Have a great day everyone!!

HI Austin,
LOL I told you it was gross! Wait til you hear the noise they make! LOL
Are you getting transferred to Painesville or just moving there? I was just wondering because if it is a transfer I would hope that the place gave you a sponsor that can take you around and show you the various areas we have talked about.
Really take a look at Mentor and Concord. They are not far and I think you will like the area. Plus with the kids, they will be close to everything. Also, Mentor High School is way better than the 2 Painesville schools.
Anyway, I will keep checking back on you...let me know if you have any questions. You can always send me a personal message through here.
Here is another game to play, ready? CITYOFMENTOR dot COM You can see what I am talking about with this place. Now it is about 20 min from the heart of Painesville but not a bad commute. Plus if the kids go to Lake Catholic it is in Mentor and also, as I said the High School is Mentor High.
Well, like I said, I'll be here if you need info. So good luck and I hope you find what you need

Thank you, Leilani. You have done a great job on describing the area. You were right the Kelly Islands are a great place to go to for a vacation on the lake. And Cedar Point has some great beaches over that way and is a great amuesment park. Also check out Geauga Lake in Aurora, Ohio. About 2 hours from Painesville.

Painesville: The Prettiest City in Lake County!
Yep, it's true, we have been named the prettiest city in Lake County!! Well, let's see...the good points. I love Painesville because it is a somewhat small town, yet it is very close to larger, more developed towns, like Mentor. While living here, I can easily access Mentor, and also am within a relatively short distance from Cleveland for when I need to go into a big city. Hmmmm, bad points...well, there are some bad areas of Painesville that you do have to watch out for. Downtown Painesville and some areas of Painesville City can be scary at night. As for schooling systems, I attended the Painesville Township school district for my entire schooling career and was very satisified. As for the Painesville City school district, well, they are slowly improving, but I would not recommend sending your kids there for schooling. What you have to do is buy a home in Painesville Township so that you can enjoy the Painesville Township school district and nice, quiet neighborhoods.
Reading the other replies, I have to sincerely tell you that Mentor schools are in SERIOUS trouble. Their levies are not passing and the school system is suffering. Their teachers are getting laid off, meaning there are larger classrooms. If your kids play sports, you are looking at about $400 PER SPORT that they play!!!
We also do have a very low crime rate here in Painesville Township. Painesville City is a little higher, but that is expected when comparing cities with townships.
OH, and ANOTHER bad point that I can't forget to mention to you is LAKE EFFECT SNOW!! It's pretty bad, but it's pretty much the same in Mentor and Concord.
Fairport Harbor and the Grand River areas are also nice, but with the recent flooding they are currently in bad condition. I'd watch that any house you look at was not flooded, or, if it was, it was taken care of correctly so that it won't be molding. Of course parts of Painesville flooded just as badly as these areas, so watch out for that anywhere right now in Northeastern Ohio. Anyway, these areas are nice, but they are even smaller than Painesville and most of the housing is not as nice, making the towns not as nice, the schooling systems not as nice, etc, etc, etc.
Good luck with your move, wherever it may be to!!!

Painesville is a very nice city. I really like the beaches around Mentor, Painesville-on-the-lake and Fairport Harbour.

I have to agree that Cedar Point would be a blast for the kids. I've always loved amusement parks, and Cedar Point is my favorite! We also go to Kelley's Island and Put N Bay every year and they are a lot of fun as well. We stay at a place called 'The House-on-the-Lake' (original name, huh? ) on Kelley's Island and it's really nice. Put N Bay is the more "adult" of the two islands, but it would still be fun for the kids during the day. And, just a little tip, you can access Cedar Point from Kelley's Island by a speedy ferry called The Rocket (I think that's still the name). This might be possible from Put N Bay too, but I'm not sure.
Now, about Perry. Perry is an awesome place to live. I'm kind of confused as to why the other poster would deter you from it so much. They have AMAZING schools that offer great classes like Tae Kwon Do, and cooking classes. They also have regular swimming classes for the youngins. There's absolutely no reason not to move there. It really is a very nice, quaint town. And, no, they did not used to PAY people to move there. Seriously do some research yourself and you'll see what a nice town Perry is. You should definitely look into it!

Hey HAS
Well, I am the "other poster" and it is just my opinion that I would not chose to live in Perry. You are right, it is a quaint town....a quaint town with a nuclear reactor in your back yard.
My Dad owned a construction company and did work on the power plant, he pulled his crews out because of the questionable work that was being done in the original construction. He gave up huge money by walking away from that one.So being he had first hand inspections of the quality of work, I would not chose to live there.
Also, I was a tot so I can't remember off hand (which I believe I stated in my comment) but if you go back and look, there was some sort of "perk" that was being offered. I can't remember if it was a tax credit or what but they gave incentives to move there.
You are right, the schools are nice, etc. Do you know where the money came to build all those nice schools???? The power plant donated a ton of money to the community to help entice families to move there.
So you are correct, Austin needs to do her own reseach. Some things just need to be more investigated than others. Things arent always what they seem.
I'm not saying Perry is a horrible place, I just personally wouldn't want a nuclear reactor in my back yard.
I'm not trying to be rude, it's just my opinion.
Leilani
PS and yes, Cedar Point Rocks...the Raptor is hands down the best ride. Once again, it's just my opinion.

Oh, no, you're absolutely right about the Power Plant. Interesting that your dad worked on it, though...I would have had no idea of "suspicious" work being done there, although I guess I should expect it! And, yeah, I know about the money for the school, I just know from experience it's a very nice, safe neighborhood. So, I guess it's a benefit-detriment kind of situation.
And I agree that the Raptor is the best...always been my favorite!
