I don't live in OK, but own property there and spend many weeks of the year in rural OK. We are a mixed race fam (b/w) with mixed kids. It's a funny state: part midwest, part south and part west both culturally and geographically. You never know what to expect. It is definitely not overtly racist, but being a bigot is not frowned upon much in OK either, and there are a lot of them around. I'll say this much. We get more consistent results when the white member of the family goes in alone to get hotels, inquire for directions, hire someone to do some work for you, and so on when in OK.

Having said that, we spend a lot of time in the town of Tahlequah and it is very diverse and we never get a second look or that "feeling" of discomfort there. Norman, near OKC, is also a good place for mixed families. I think that it would be the same near the bases too. Also, kids - especially city kids - are not nearly as "racial" as their parents. They have no memory of a segregated society and everything they watch and listen to is integrated. The kids are into hip-hop and rap in OK too.

I wouldn't lose a lot of sleep over it. We planned at one point to live there, but can't get out of AZ because of the recession. Still would move (for the lakes!) even after several years experience with the issue that concerns you.

Pretty much all of the metro OKC area is pretty accepting. It doesn't get iffy until you get way out in the country, but they have a problem with minorities in general, not just mixed couples.
