It seems that teacher salaries are extremely low in OKC and the state as a whole. How is the job market for teachers? The DFW Metroplex is decimated with state budget problems and I am looking at other areas. What about private non-religious based schools?

We just moved here from Texas three months ago, and it seems like a lot of people we've met so far homeschool their kids because the Oklahoma City School District is not very good. However the Putnman City School District and Edmond School District seem to be the best here. I'm not sure about compensation, though. Our oldest daughter is just about to start Kindergarten next fall at Putnam City (which is actually a separate school district on the NW side of OK City). We'll see how it goes. We really liked the quality of the schools in North San Antonio before we moved here, and in Texas as a whole (former PESH student!!!)

OKC schools pay more than the other districts. Putnam City and Edmond had a lot of openings a month ago - not sure if they have filled them all. OKC always has openings, and I enjoyed my time teaching in that district. Moore had quite a few openings too, the last time i checked. We have so many metro suburbs, with their own school districts. I know very few (can't even think of any right now) teachers who can't find a job.
