My daughter is moving to OKC next month and has found what she describes as a great up-and-coming area in the Youngs-Englewood area (North of NW 10th Street between May and Pennsylvania). I'm hoping to find out, protective parent that I am, how the area is before she commits to something to rent.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks.

You can type in crime tracker or crime map okc on google and get an idea on the number and types of crimes found in the area.

Or you can go to one of the OKC news stations online. They usually have crime maps.

She is right that it is up-and-coming. The entire area north of 10th from Classen to May and north to I-44 is really seeing a lot of young people move in. The same area north of 23rd was one of the fastest growing Census tracts in OKC between 2000 and 2010. However, I think in general areas north of 16th and east of Penn are the furthest along. Crestwood is another popular area that is adjacent to Youngs-Englewood. Some people are willing to take the risk of living in these "mostly safe" neighborhoods to be urban pioneers, which is exciting and gratifying for people who want to help build the future for the central city. This is probably what your daughter wants, and that's why a lot of people in their 20s are drawn to these neighborhoods.

Default Penn?

Can anyone tell me if "Penn" is short for Pennsylvania, or if it's referring to Classen-Ten-Penn, or is "Penn" totally different street?
It would help to know that.
Thank you.

Yes, Penn is just short for Pennsylvania.
