I love the Tudor revival style. That is probably why the historic neighborhoods in OKC are so beautiful. It is always sad to see a nice old tudor gem in decay because of low income. I hope more people keep on restoring and filling in the bad parts with love and care.

Robin, I have to throw in a funny here. In the late 1990's, McClellan AFB in Sacramento closed and many of the jobs moved to Tinker AFB, near OKC. I had worked with several of the people by phone for many years and had met some of their families when I was out there TDY. One of the moms told me she was shocked when one of her daughters picked up a four-letter word after only a couple of months living in Oklahoma. That word was YA'LL.
Good luck with your move!

Robin,
I hope I found you in time. Please Please don't move to Guthrie. I made that mistake.
Anywhere but Guthrie. Why would you want to leave Ca? I left CA in 1993 and moved to Oklahoma. All that I thought was bad in CA. doesn't look so bad now. We pay as much in taxes here and really have nothing to show for it. The pay is less, a lot less. The benifits companies offer are a joke and don't believe the education ratings. True there are some good things in OK but not as much as CA. Do yourself a favor and really think about it do a lot of research. Good Luck

Robin, first off, why are you moving to Oklahoma?
I grew up in Sacramento (graduated from Elk Grove HS). To make a long story short, I left CA after hs. I eventually met and married a man from a small town in Oklahoma. Also, my father was born and raised in Oklahoma. I lived in rural NW OK for about 12 yrs. It took me about 10 yrs to get used to it! After that I grew to love the area where I lived. My kids were very active in the community, as was I, being a newspaper reporter. I no longer live in Oklahoma but there are things about it that I miss. I just want for you to know that it maybe something of a culture shock. I drove thru Sacramento last summer for the first time in about 18 yrs. OMG. So filthy and trashy. I would take living in OKC over Sacramento any day. If you move, get involved within your community and you will be fine. Having kids will help you to make friends.
Here is a short story about what it was like when I first arrived in Oklahoma: One day my husband and I were driving along. He had gotten out of the Air Force and moved to the town where his father was at that time the Police Chief. I arrived a month after my husband had been there. So, we were driving along and an approaching car is coming. The driver waves...my husband waves back. I asked, "Who was that?" My husband replied, "I don't know." Soon another vehicle approaches...driver waves..husband waves back. I ask, "Who is that?" Husband replies, "I don't know." Then another vehicle comes along...same thing..driver waves, husband waves back. I ask, "Who was that?" Husband replies, "I don't know. This is Oklahoma, just smile and wave back!"
