bluedeath, you might want to ask about Edmond in this section since it is much closer to OKC. We moved from Central CA a little over 4 years ago and we LOVE it here. Wish I could help you out with Edmond but we opted for a much smaller town down south called Duncan.

Best of luck!

Anywhere but Guthrie. Why would you want to leave Ca? I left CA in 1993 and moved to Oklahoma. All that I thought was bad in CA. doesn't look so bad now. We pay as much in taxes here and really have nothing to show for it. The pay is less, a lot less. The benifits companies offer are a joke and don't believe the education ratings. True there are some good things in OK but not as much as CA. Do yourself a favor and really think about it do a lot of research. Good Luck
Perk37...it is interesting that you do not think the education is all that good in OK, yet all three high schools in Edmond have made Newsweeks "Nations Best High Schools" list in the last 2-3yrs that I have read the article. That seems pretty positive to me. Maybe you are speaking of more rural areas, but would think those ratings would be lower. What about the schools/education system do you find lacking?

Thank you. I wish I had seen this post before. It's about time someone told the truth about this state. And to think, Guthrie is the pick of the litter here, too.

Just remember, anyone interested in moving here to Oklahoma. Jobs are non-existent, taxes are high (we tax FOOD for cryin out loud) Most stores only carry 3.2 beer, when you go out for a nice dinner, you will find oilfield trash and cowboys fresh off work at the table next to you, we have interminable arguments about the relative merits of OKC and Tulsa (about like two pigs bragging about whose mud wallow is best), the highlights of the sports year is when Jenks beats Union in football and when OU and OSU play anything against each other.

Seriously, if you are looking at Oklahoma, keep looking........

This man is correct. It's a cesspool in Oklahoma, DO NOT move here!

Wife beater shirts are business casual dress and the state motto is "Duck! Here comes another tornado!"

i used to live outside of Sacramento....I would choose it over Oklahoma any day.
But I can't. Wife thinks all people in Cali are freaks and all of our family is here.

Northern california though, is well worth the hassle of living in California, albeit the traffic is getting way out of control out near Roseville/Rocklin area. This is why i chose a small town called foresthill.

Bwwwahhhh!!!!

Seriously, get over yourselves. There are a lot worse places than Oklahoma. It is much cleaner than Houston.

It's about time someone told the truth about this state.

The truth is there are both good and bad things about Oklahoma... just like every other state. That's life. Get used to it. High taxes and non-existent jobs? Sounds like you backed yourself into a bad corner.

Cry me a freakin river.
