Default Oklahoma City really a city or What?

Seems like some people want to continue playing with the idea to only upset others......When they dont live there. Period. I feel sorry for those who continue the arguement for personal reasons.....why dont they just let it be.....Let it be and let it be. PERIOD. My father was driving to work to his law office when the bombing hit. His car was thrown in the air....My family had their windows broken from the blast which was miles away....Some just cant git it. THE BOMBING THAT OCCURED IN OKC WAS TRAGIC. PERIOD. I PITY THE FOOL WHO THINKS DIFFERENTLY. I personally know the doctor who had to cut a leg off a victim who was stuck in the rubble with his pocket knife...I PITY. I PITY. PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE THIS WAS A TYPICAL SITUATION IN LIFE. PERIOD.

Happy, I'm SO sorry for what happened to the people in OKC during the bombing. It was awful and we were glued to the tv for days just shocked by the tragedy. It has to be awful memories for you and many others who lived there at the time.

My husband's neice lived several miles away from OKC at the time. (Her DH was stationed in OK then) They could even feel the earth shaking from the explosion.

I'm hesitant, but it seems this may be a topic that others in OK may want to discuss. But PLEASE let's keep this civil AND we are not going to rediscuss if OKC is a city or not. It IS a city. A banned troll came up with that topic and let's all leave it buried.

Feel free to discuss the horrible bombing incident though, but stay in the guidelines of the TOS.

I'm still kind of new on these city-data forums. Since it's mentioned here, I've gotta ask: Just what is a troll? I see the term often, so I've got a general picture, but what is it exactly?

Its not something I like to discuss at all. Not many would try to compare 911 or the OKC bombing to individual deaths....but in a closed thread the topic still continues. I dont care to be a part of that...It makes me sick. I just believe some want to make some silly point....Which would be endless. For that reason it would be silly for me to continue to engage in the discussion on the OKC forum. The recent remarks made are way too personal for me. Thankyou for the understanding and take care. Happytown.

I did not personally know anyone killed or injured in the bombing.

I did feel and hear it. I looked out a window of my office building on NW Highway and saw the smoke. That was a terrible day that changed us all forever.

I do not want to discuss the bombing or see it discussed with people who weren't here and want to make troll remarks about it.

Ogre, a troll is someone who just wants to say mean things to others. I am sure you will see one show up here.

Jammie and Jessaka, I hope you didn't think I was rude in my response above. I don't think people who were not here can really understand how we feel. I still have trouble with the horrible images burned into my brain, so I do get touchy when other people make comments that seem to belittle the event or our city's role. Do you remember Connie Chung?

We would just rather move along and focus on the positive things in life, like Happytown said. If other people want to comment on their memories of that time, that is OK with me.

Happy, we'll just leave those subjects alone. We don't want any hard feelings here. We all get along quite well and if you ever read on a couple of the other states, you'll see that's rare. SEVERAL of the states are happy ones, but others are not. This is among the happiest.

Peggy, you weren't rude at all. You're never rude. If we don't want the bombing talked about, we can close this thread AND monitor any future threads about it. You Okies can make that decision~just let me know. How far did you live from OKC at that time? I wish I could remember the town Neice lived in, but I'll ask her when I see her. It wasn't extremely near OKC so it had to be an awful explosion. It was a terrible tragedy.

Ogre, about all I can say about the poster who originally started this problem is that he/she was a troll. They received several infractions and non were related to their thread here, which tells us his main purpose was to wreak havoc, flare tempers, cause fighting and disharmony among the members, etc. Trolls are people who have nothing better to do then start a thread that they know will hurt people or make them angry. They often don't even participate in the thread any further. They sit back and watch everyone flame each other. If things die down in it, they do jump in. Let me give you an illustration just cause I feel silly today~

Troll's opening thread~Jammie's town, So. Dak. sucks. It's filthy and dirty and crime ridden so don't move there.

Dick says~I've been through there and it looked ok to me. What are you talking about?

Jammie says~ I'm insulted. The crime rate in my town is only a 200 when the national average is 325. I've lived here my entire life and it is one of the cleanest towns around.

Jane says~I've lived here for two years now and can't wait to get out of here. Troll is right.

Jammie says~Jane, so when are you moving?

At this point, Troll is in Heaven, but let things die down and people start getting along and he'll be back posting~

Troll~Jane is the only smart one here. She's my kind of person. She's been out in the world and knows the score.

SO, now Dick and I are having bad feelings toward Jane, too.

I know, silly scenario and kind of drug out, BUT that's just how a troll operates. I believe they actually have a sort of disorder cause all they want is trouble.

Okay, let me chime in here so this debate is put to rest.

A city is a three-tier term by census definition. You have major cities like Tulsa, Omaha, and Albuquerque... cities with populations of up to 500,000. Then there are big cities like Indianapolis, Oklahoma City and Austin... cities with populations of 500,000 up to 1,000,000. Beyond 1,000,000 are burghs. New York is a burgh. Chicago is a burgh. Dallas and Houston are burghs, as well as L.A.

Any other attribute of this argument would have been on Oklahoma City's side, anyhow. We've made our fair contribution to the nation as far as famous people, music and inventions.

Thanks for the info, Jammie. I had the general idea, but was pretty curious about the specifics. I've seen two cases, at other states' forums, where people were accused of being trolls, and gave the rejoinder that they were just trying to help people thinking of moving to those states get a realistic picture of what to expect, before they made a major commitment like moving. One of them got banned, while so far the other is still going strong. I guess it's a judgment call as to when someone is legitimately trying to give potential new residents fair warning about potential pitfalls, and when someone is just trying to stir up trouble.

I think when you ask a really knuckleheaded question like "is OkC really a city?" definitely qualifies you as a troll.
