Articulate- I dont have the time to write perfectly dude. I spit out Intelligence fast. Like many profs. Wish you sit on a lecture- maybe I could teach you manners or something.

Again- look at previous posts. I clearly showed why OKC is a city. Isnt that enough for you? Can you read? That is the THREAD YOU STARTED? I answered your questions. period. Do a rewind so you can 'thunk' it over a little more.

Then- check1.23 GPA throws in how Guthrie has a high crime rate- CHECK YOU ARE OFF THE THREAD YOU STARTED(LOL).

AND

Your exactly right this time/I will give you a higher score= 1.234 GPA!...You ARE A STRANGER- that should be enough to make you stop! Now I have to go. I have a REAL position in life and that is going to work at a university- wish I could charge you for teaching. But- unfortunately OU and Harvard will not except the GPA. I can recommend a two year college, maybe online, I will try to talk to my colleagues about this- hopefully McDonalds U will accept. I really want to help you find yourself check- like many of my undergrads.

Have fun in your cube- watch out here comes your boss!

The very first respondent did not take offense. He simply posted messages and links that supported his position, that OKC was indeed a city. His posts were articulate, unilike some others who post consecutive messages, all with no point in sight.

Those with self-worth are able to step back and engage the topic, instead of taking it as an insult.
The very nature of your question is insulting. It's similar to asking a baseball player if they are "really" a baseball player, or an artist if they are "really" an artist.
With a city population of over 500,000 and metropolitan area of around 1 million people, it's obvious that OkC is a city, and insinuating that it may or may not be so because of it's "relevant importance" in comparison to mega-cities like NY is an obvious attempt not to ask a question but to make a statement.

It was also very clear that others were wondering where you were going with this line of questioning and most (if not all) of the statements indicated that people were puzzled by your question.

At first, I too was wondering where the questions were leading and then I realized it wasn't a question you were asking, but a statement you were making.

So, it's not an engaging topic, it's an insulting and foolish statement from what appears to be a typical, arrogant East coast centrist that believes nothing outside of your small area of existence holds any importance.

Synopsis,

I can understand why the follow up posts may have insulted you, but the initial post was simply a question. I'm sorry that you perceived it as an insult.

It's unfortunate.

Check,

The best way I can try and explain my reaction is to ask you to try and put the shoe on the other foot. What if someone asked the same question of where you live, work, and raise your family?

Technically speaking, it wasn't an offensive question; but it appeared (to me) that you were questioning the importance of the city because it isn't a giant urban area such as NYC or LA. If you asked this same question of a sampling of other cities I might understand your question, but to single out OkC, which is a good-sized city had implications that you think there is nothing of importance there.

The people in Oklahoma are great people, and they enjoy their lives, livelihood, and surroundings every bit as much as people in NYC.

"Where does a large town end and a small city begin? Is an urban core necessary to define a city?" posted by check....again

Then check- do some research. Last I heard a city is over 50,000. Maybe by doing this research you can enlighten the rest of us and yourself- since you seem to be so interested. whoops- this isnt my conversation... sorry man.

Yes check OKC like other cities of the same size have an urban core.....now you are getting to be very boring.

I truly believe you just simply like having the last comment....end of story.

Perhaps the wording of the original question was a bit off. To re-word it...

"Where does a large town end and a small city begin? Is an urban core necessary to define a city?"
Why not post that in the "General U.S." forum if you are seeking such enlightenment? Why troll into the OkC forum and ask that question about this city in particular? The question in general isn't a bad one; it even has some social or civic implications that could be quite relevant. However, you would be better served if this question were posed in a general forum.

But, to single out this specific sity for such a question would seem to imply that you think this city/metropolitan area in which 1 million people call their home should not hold the status of a "city."

In your opinion, maybe OkC should just be labeled as a village or a town as it doesn't have the wherewhithall to meet your criteria for a "city."

How about trolling over to the Little Rock, Santa Fe, Reno, Omaha, and other city forums (cities that are MUCH smaller than OkC, btw) and asking that question? See the reaction you might receive in those forums and then compare results..

Synopsis, and shad...

> I went back and read all the posts in this thread. My first post was intended as a harmless (yet sarcastic) question. What started off as sacrasm has turned into an outright name calling contest. Let me apologize to you for any insults, intended or unintended.

> With the U.S. population just passing the 300million mark, many cities have grown, and many small towns are now close to city status. To rephrase my original post... "Do you think that OKC is the same (city vs town) as it was just 10 years ago." For better or worse?

> Also, while I have never been to OKC, I was planning a summer trip to the memorial site. I've heard mixed reviews. What are your opinions on it?
