well i grew up in SW okc and lived there in different neighborhoods until i was 20.....SW okc is not a very safe place these days between I-240 and downtown. i moved to norman and every time i come into the city to visit my mother i am always glad to get back out of it! i also went to a middle school and high school in SW okc and they are lacking to say the least. gang activity, drugs, crime.....the list goes on and on. I would recommend suburbs like mustang, moore, norman, tuttle, newcastle....hope this helps!

I would recommend checking out Mustang if you're willing to be a bit outside OKC. It's about 20 minutes from downtown but I think it's a pretty nice community. My kids (age 5 & 7) go to school in Mustang and so far the schools have been nice. My favorite part of the town is how active the community center is, every week they have something going on there which is a lot of fun, especially for the kids.
As far as churches, this is Oklahoma, instead of a Sturbucks on every corner we have a church, so I wouldn't worry too much about finding one.

Kandydpierce is right about the issues within the city, and also would point you towards one of those suburbs.

If you have to be in the area of SW OKC you can go another mile south past I-240 and be in northwest Moore. Northwest Moore has a good school system, safe neighborhoods, a community college that offers a wide variety of programs and has one of the best swimming facilities in the central United States. Northwest Moore is convenient to the airport, shopping, hospitals, downtown OKC, This area also has a fine Church of God University (Mid America Christian) and a Freewill Baptist University a little further away in the south part of Moore.

If you want a smaller town that is in that area, newcastle is just southwest of moore
