Would Moore be a good place to retire or would the Fayetteville metro in AR be better. OKC is pretty big and I'm coming from Phoenix and I'm not sure I would to get into a big metro again. I know I need to go there and take a look but just thought I would post for any info or ideas.

It would all depend on what you are looking for, because the two areas are vastly different. I live in the OKC metro and really like it here, but we have often considered Fayetteville for retirement. We've even gone so far as to meet with a couple of real estate agents there because we were considering buying a home now and renting it out until we are ready to retire.

I love OKC but Fayetteville has been recognized as one of the best places to retire in the nation. Lots of folks from OKC actually do retire in Northwest Arkansas. Moore is great place to raise a family, but I see nothing redeeming about it for a couple retiring unless they already live there and/or need to be living in the OKC area for other reasons.

Also if you are looking for "small", OKC has about 800K more people than NWA. Just something to consider.

I would choose a small Oklahoma town where you could be a part of the community- spend time volunteering, etc if you're bored. Not a lot of opportunities like that for older people in a plain family-factory suburb like Moore. Fayetteville, AR is a nice town.

Fayetteville, AR....I believe the taxes are lower in AR too...I might be wrong on that, but it seems I read that somewhere. Also, it's prettier there as you're on the edge of the Ozarks...Not far from Branson, MO. too...

I would much rather retire to north central Arkansas than to central Oklahoma. I prefer Batesville, but that is just because I have spend quite a bit of time there.

Not sure about property taxes, but sales tax is higher than here. Our son is in college there and the first time I made a purchase in a store, I almost had a heart attack. I believe their sales tax runs close to 10%.

I know Moore OK is cheaper to buy a house and Moores houses are nicer dollar for dollar, such nice red brick houses is something i Find very nice. The crime rate is lower in Moore. OKC is only a couple of minutes away if Iwant to do something or go someplace. The weather might be a little cooler in AR but it's a hard dicision until I look at them in person.

I found this site that gives a break down on sales tax; don't know how accurate it is, but did find that my sales tax in CA. was cheaper than here....
