I would hope that they would rename the team. Oklahoma City Sonics doesn't exactly roll of the tongue. Doesn't make too much since either.

Yes, they will have to rename the team. We already have Sonics in Yukon, Moore, Norman and Edmond. This will just add to the confusion. Wouldn't it be neat though if Sonic could get the concession agreement for the Sonics. Just imagine watchin' them guys dunk basketball balls while eating a footlong cheese coney with a large order of onion rings. I could become a really mess afair.....

The likelihood is that the franchise probably will get a new name once the team relocates; I don't expect them to retain Sonics as team name. And they'll likely, too, be realigned into the same division with the Rockets, Mavs, and (gulp!) Spurs.
Well, just be encouraged.

OKC deserves a team!
I think Oklahoma City deserves a team and will support it well. The owner of the Hornets made a big mistake moving them back to New Orleans, they wouldve done a lot better in OKC!

I can't wait till they're gone. And I hope they start winning once they are. SEA really doesn't need them as a draw or a diversion.

That's OK, Nameless. I think pro women's basketball could be pretty big in Oklahoma. We have a big talent pool right here, and in Texas. OU women's BB is really popular, with CP.

It could be. The average attendance for most teams last year was 7-8k or so. So sell outs just won't happen.

I always liked "The 89ers" and can't believe they changed the name of the minor league baseball team to "The Redhawks" or whatever it is now.
Maybe the NBA team could be called The 89ers?

Possible Names
I always liked the name wranglers. But that might fit right in the "Oklahoma Redneck" stereotypes that people so often associate with this state.
