healthcare jobs
My family will be moving to either Mustang or Edmond next summer and I have been searching jobs for sonographers. I haven't seen too many jobs. What is the job market like and salary range?

What is the difference between a sonographer and an ultrasound tech? Is a sonographer a more advanced job?

There really is no difference between a sonographer and ultrasound tech. It is just a more professional term. Frankly, when I tell people I am a sonographer, the reply is usually "it must be interesting working in a court room." Sonography is a very specialized field and some get offended when you call them "techs."

I saw only one ad in the classified ads for ultrasound tech, and none for sonographer. The site seems harder to use than it should be. I did an advanced search and clicked on "Title Only" so I wouldn't get so many irrelevant results. You can look at all the ads in the medical section too. Many of them have links to the hospitals' employment websites.

Interestingly, I looked up ultrasound tech in Tulsa and found quite a few openings, but only one in OkC. Several of these are at St. Francis Hospital (the big pink hospital) in Tulsa.

Perhaps the job market for sonographers is more competitive in OkC? I don't know. Maybe the salaries are lower in Tulsa and there is higher turnover.
