Regency towers
I'm moving to OKC in a few days (from Houston, TX). I need to be close to OUHSC (cause i'll be going to school over there), I'm about to sign a lease to the Regency tower apartments - on NW 5th street. I was wondering if anyone could give feedback on this apartment complex. Is it a safe place, is it in a safe area, what should i expect.

My son lived there a few years ago. It was nice for him while he was single, but he is married with family now. It was really safe there IMO. It has its own parking and security guards screened who was coming in the building. I enjoyed visiting him there because of the wonderful view from his balcony. I never felt unsafe there even when leaving there after dark.

I would suggest looking into Bricktown. Many apartment options exist and you are VERY close in proximity to OHSC.

Bricktown area would be closer, and the apartments are newer.
I forgot to mention about the Regency, it is next to the Memorial. People visit there day and night, so the area is well patrolled and not deserted at night.

Ya- If the OP is looking for a highrise apartment tower then that would be the ticket for sure. The views are really nice. I would choose to live in one on the North side because you can see more than just buildings.

Thumbs up
I lived at Regency Tower for a couple of years, around 2003-04. I LOVED my apartment there. I worked for the Red Cross, which is right across the street from OUHSC, and it took me no more than 5 minutes to get to and from work.
I had a 2 bed/2 bath apartment on the 18th floor facing downtown. Amazing views. Amazing. I can't say enough about how great the view was. It became the only place where my friends wanted to hang out, so I learned a lot about throwing dinner parties while I lived there!
There's a great little deli/convenience store (assuming it's still there) where you could get your essentials if you don't have time to make a trip to the store. That was one complaint - no convenient access to a grocery store. I just made a trip to the Belle Isle Wal-Mart every now and then. And I've heard rumors about a grocery being built downtown, but I don't know.
My best advice is that you should spring for the garage parking space. It costs more, but without it you have to fight for one of the few outdoor spots (rarely available) and sometimes you can only find parking on the street. When I moved out, I had spent over $1000 on parking tickets. So be careful about that!
I am moving back to OKC in a year, and plan to consider Regency Tower again. It has a very urban feel, about as NYC as you can get in OKC.
Good luck!

You've probably all ready moved in by now, but thought I'd throw in my two cents as well. I've currently lived at the Regency Tower for a little over a year and really like it here. I don't think I've ever felt safer living anywhere. Many of the older residents have lived in the building for many years. I was chatting with an elderly lady in the lobby the other day and she said she's lived here for fourty years! Of course, there are younger people here too. Very diverse tenants and everyone seems to get along well. Sure, you encounter a few snooty people on the elevators. You say 'hello' to them and they remain silent. I find that bizarre! I'm a quiet person, but if you say hello to me, I will say it back. But I digress. All in all, I like living in the building. I do not park in the overpriced garage and nearly always find a decent spot on the street never further than half a block a way. I've never had any safety problems walking to and from the building. The apartments are quiet. Never hear my neighbors above or below. Only occasional noise in the halls. Hope you like it here, too. Welcome to the Regency, neighbor!
