It is ranked among 33 of America's poorest. I don't agree.

Very wide range of cities on that list.

A true measure of poverty is income in relation to the cost of living and percentage of people on government assistance. OKC has a very low cost of living so a lot of employers here pay less than they would elsewhere.

Look at some of the other cities on this list:

New York
Boston
Philadelphia
Settle
Portland
Los Angeles

I'm sure I skipped some, but these tend to be considered "destination" cities; places where people want to live.

I was much less skeptical about the listing after I saw the "loser" cities OKC was being paired with. I do question the methodology used to compile the list, but that is a common theme with most "best" or "worst" list I see.

So, Boston and New York are poorer than Oklahoma City?

Yeah, and not as good-looking either!

I don't Put any value in any of those list, unless we're doing good on it! Do you remember a few years back one of those big magazines, I think it was Sports Illustrated, said Oklahoma City was like living in hell, or something like that! OKC was rated as one of the 10 worst cities in the world to live in. Give me a break! I'm guessing they never had been here. I can think of 50 places in the United States that are worse than Oklahoma City.

Boy, ain't that the truth!

I lived in New England for a spell and I tell you what, those girls had nothin' (NOTHING) on our Oklahoma Belles. I guess we're just really blessed here in this part of the country.

Also, when they found out I was part Native American they figured I rode into town on a bareback horse and lived in a teepee! Granted, I'm dark complected and I possess some of the features, but holy smokes I'm a half-breed like many many Okies.

Let the East and West Coasters think we're a living hell here in the South-Central. Less transplants means more of Oklahoma for us genuine Okies to enjoy.
