Default KOMA Radio

I see that KOMA is still around. I grew up on KOMA and it was one of the most powerful AM stations in the country. It's good to see the 50,000 watt blowtorch is still in business.

I still listen to KOMA when I want to hear some oldies, which is a lot of the time.

I'm so glad you brought that up. I'll have to try to see if we can still get it in up here. We generally listen to Kool 98, which is right here in town. They play the Golden Oldies.

We always listened to KOMA back in the 60s. They had the best music!! It's funny because when I started listening to it, I had no idea where OkC was. Well, there's another thing we all have in common.

I'm just wondering how it was possible for us to get that way up here back then. They must've had some transmitter.

Seems like every day at 6:00 pm they would say they were turning on their 50,000 watts of power.

Yep, at night-time people all over the middle and western parts of the country would listen to KOMA.

There's an article about Ronnie Kaye on newsok.com today. I assume it's in the Oklahoman also. His 50th year in broadcasting. He started with WKY but it was the same era. He works for KOMA now.

Guys, I hate to spoil the parade, but let's make sure we're talking about KOMA, which these days is only on FM in Oklahoma City. It's on 92.5 and it is 100,000 watts, which is usually the maximum for most FM's in America. If you're talking about AM 1520, it used to be occupied by KOMA, but not now. Occupying the 50,000-watt frequency today is a talk station, KOKC. They broadcast local news and Gary England's weather. They also have Bill O'Reilly, Laura Ingraham and Paul Harvey. And they have OU sports.

Don't believe it??? Check this. Talk Radio 1520 KOKC
