My dad was born in Drumwright, Ok in 1927. He had real nice memories of a hilly town with lots of trees. He moved to Illinois when he was still young and then right after WW11 he left for the Sierras in N California and married my mom, a CA native of the high Sierra; he never even went back but I wish we had visited his hometown as well as Il.
Is there anyone who could tell me a bit more about their lifes' experience in Drumwright?

I remember those days to I don't know the answer. But, back in the good old days T.V.s didn't have 100s of channels. Kids played outside and parents watched. Folks didn't shoot you when they drove by. I wish it different.

I've noticed most people just keep to themselves now a days. Just changing with the times. I don't interact or talk to any of my neighbors. And I never see them out talking amongst eachother either.

You'd be hard pressed to find anyone as genuinely friendly and concerned as Okies. I've been all over the land (East, West, Midwest, Deep South) and the only places I felt that even came close to the Okie hospitality and Way were Arkansas and here in North Texas (Cowtown, U.S.A.) where I live currently. I hope to live the rest of my life in the south-central states....but I don't want to tell God my plans or he'll take me elsewhere;-)

I'm from Houston, but have now lived in OKC about seven months. People in Oklahoma are hard to get to know. Houstonians are so outgoing and friendly. The city seems so much more upbeat, here people keep to themselves and things don't seem very lively. I don't know if it takes them longer to trust new people or what.

It really depends on what part of the city in which you live, and chance encounters. I have experienced the opposite in Houston... except for co-workers. In NW OKC and Edmond, people were always lively and upbeat. Get around MWC, or even Bethany/Warr Acres... things get a little interesting.

Within days of moving into my house in Mustang just about all of my neighbors came over to introduce themselves. We've chatted with a few of them every now and then. My co-workers in OKC are also very friendly, and we've had a few get togethers as well. However, I'm not afraid to approach people and invite them over. Someone always has to make the first move, and I don't mind being the one.
