$15K/yr for tuition is more than a "little dough" for most of us! I'm also trying to find a historic neighborhood with decent public schools (I'm considering an offer at OUHSC - but I'm not a physician) and have followed each of the threads on this topic. All of them end up with a wink and nudge to the private schools.

With 2 kids and 1 income, private school is NOT an option. So, can someone please provide some quality info about the best historic neighborhood regarding PUBLIC schools???

FYI: I'm currently in Fairfax, VA where I spend a ridiculous share of my income for the best public school district in the nation.

Best historic neighborhoods with good public schools... Central Norman. OKC's historic neighborhoods have excellent public schools if the kids get into specialty or charter schools like Classen SAS. And OKC's inner city schools are relatively good, thanks to MAPS for Kids the brand new facilities and technology provide a good framework for education to take place.

Alrighty, here are some quick, to-the-point answers. Hope it helps!!

1. Rush hour in OKC can be bad, but not as bad as Dallas can be. Usually traffic is moving, sometimes slower than others, but rarely have I ever been just totally stopped for more than 2 minutes.

2. Places that are nice/safe to live: Norman, North Moore, NW OKC, Edmond, Warr Acres/Bethany. Of course, even these areas might have some suspect neighborhoods, but overall the best places to live. I would advise not to live in Midwest/Del City area... My personal opinion.

3. The Paseo District, Edgemere, Nichols Hills and Edmond all have older homes that you could find for your price range and still feel safe. Unless you are just wanting an older home, the budget you give is more than enough to purchase a brand new house.

My sister is a realtor for ERA Courtyard, and if would like her help, shoot me a message and I will forward you her contact info! All in all, OKC and the suburbs of it are a great place to live. It's still a city so you don't feel like you just moved to BFE, but it's also quaint so you don't feel overwhelmed and can actually enjoy your new home.

Excuse me? I've never encountered a nice person in Dallas... No offense to Texans, but OK is a GREAT place to live. Just the other day I had help from 5 people when I got a flat tire during my drive home from work. Who in DFW would pull over to help me change my tire during rush hour?!?! Get your facts straight, please!

And have you ever been outside? I could fill this page with fun things to do.
