Smile Route 66 in Oklahoma

We watched a disk last night about Route 66 and it was pretty good.

I had learned that back in the 1930's that Oklahoma people came to California because of the interesting weather they had that wiped out there crops and the lack of rain.

I was wondering if any the places on Route 66 in Oklahoma are still open.

They mention a coffee shop also and said the people were all very nice and enjoyed talking to everyone.

I believe i did hear that Oklahoma does enjoy talking

That new Pops place is very interesting. I got an orange cream soda in there but it was too busy to eat there that day.

There are many old relics of Route 66 left throughout Oklahoma, too. I like how Pops blends the old with the new.

Rand Elliott designed it so it has to be great. I also need to see that old round barn again!

When I was a kid, about a thousand years ago, Mother and I travelled Route 66 several times. Our hometown mainstreet was Route 66. We lived in Miami, OK, and went to see relatives in Whittier, CA. Lots of good memories about those trips. I think about it now and wonder how she did it. We never made the trip after I was old enough to drive. Mother drove it all while I read or slept or looked out the window. No air conditioning in the cars then. When we approached the desert, we'd buy a block of ice and put it in a tub on the floorboard, so the vent could blow air across it.

I need to go to Pops with the kiddo I think. Sounds fun.

As for places along Route 66, Albuquerque has some great places but I wouldn't call them reminiscent of the "old Route 66".

Guess it's been a while since I did anything along the old Route 66. Might be a must-do this spring!

Oklahoma has more miles on Route 66 than any other state. You literally get to see the east meet the west in Oklahoma on that route.

Default Clinton Route 66 Festival

Here's a link to the Clinton Route 66 Festival in June. They don't have the cruise route posted yet. At one time they went all the way from Miami to...I can't remember the western end...but I don't know if it's that way any more.
