Default Trip to Edmond in April

Hi, all. I just wanted to write and thank everyone for their responses to posts of people like me just looking for information to an area in which they will be relocating. While not an avid poster (have posted only a couple of times), I am an avid reader and check the forum daily. We will be moving from socal to Edmond on June 1. The 2nd week of April will be our time to go there and look for a home/neighborhood where we would like to live. I think I have pretty good idea of where I want to go and am very excited about the trip. I think Edmond will be a wonderful place to raise our young boys! Thanks again to all.

Default It will be different in Oklahoma.

I don't know what you may have turned up in your research on Ok but be ready for a big change. I am a native but have lived elsewhere as well as having travelled to southern ca many times. Of course I'm sure you know the COL is less but so will the choices you will have as in regards to shopping, restaurants, entertainment, scenery.I actually live in Edmond and think it is a nice community. Good schools. The housing market is still quite strong here. There are lots of transplant californians in OK so you should be able to find people who can empathize with you.

Good luck in your house search in April. We came here from NJ in January and found a house/neighborhood in less than a week . We moved here at the beginning of March, and are very happy with our choice of town and house in Mustang. It is different here, but like all new things, it just takes time to adjust. Things would be going a lot smoother for us if we didn't have teenagers. You're smart to move while your children are young.

I do realize that it will be an adjustment. But, I have already looked up a Mom's group and plan on joining. Also, I have been looking at preschools and elementary schools...etc for the boys. The irony of it is that we will have way more disposable income (DH salary will remain the same), but not as much to do. So be it...we'll adjust. I am also looking forward to taking some weekend trips to NM, TX, KS, MO. Usually, we go to Arizona, San Diego, and Big Bear. That's not all that exciting when you do it alllll the time, either.
Thanks....

I have visited that site, and another one that was in the paper today is: www.wimgo.com that lists all sorts of things going on in the state.

Shadow, thanks for replying to my country club post.

My fiance and I have a very similar situation to yours. We don't have kids yet, but I will be relocating for a job soon too and she will be coming with me. What's weird is we will be in Edmond too next week looking at homes. I am getting a higher paying job than the one I have in Cali and our cost of living will be going way down so it is kinda fun going from a half million 780 sq ft condo to looking at a 4 bedroom house on a golf course for the same money

We are getting married in August, but I will be in OK in June and commuting back to Cali on the weekends until after the wedding when she moves back to OK with me. She is pretty stressed to say the least with wedding planning, me being gone the two months before the wedding, and a move following! She is a first grade teacher and we have to figure out how she can transfer her credential to OKC but the funny thing is in OK she would not even half to work if she did not want to.

Good luck with your search next week. Do you have realtor yet?

Yes, we do have a realtor that has been assigned to us by the relocation company. I am not so keen on living on a golf course, and there are tons of them in OKC! Couldn't believe it last time I was there. Anyway, looking for very family oriented communities and am very interested in Oak Tree Park, Coffee Creek, Cascata Falls, Bella Terra and Steeplechase.
Last time I was out I checked out Oak Tree Country Club, which is very nice and a top rated golf course. You may want to look into that one. I didn't look into the golf membership, just social/tennis/fitness. Also a gated community, but much older homes and I think pricey for what you get out there. Anyway, please keep in touch. Perhaps when we are both settled, the four of us can meet for coffee.

PS...isn't it strange how much you get for your $$$$ out there....so exciting! Good luck to you.

Martinjr, I am a teacher who moved from CA to OK. Transferring my credential was EXTREMELY easy. All I had to do was send them a copy of my teaching credential and a fingerprint card. I've been subbing consistently this year and I'm not worried at all about finding a job for next year. Edmond/Deer Creek are growing like crazy.

Oh congratulations on moving to Edmond! My DH and I have put that at the top of our list. It is such an active community for kids and beyond. We have a realtor in the area thats awesome. She has spent lots of time with us and told us of so many things that go on in the community. I love having coffee in Panera (which is in a great little shopping area) and listening to all the college students chatting! And, there is a great little boutique on their main downtown street.

Please do check in after your move to share your thoughts on moving to Edmond and what its like to live there. As someone who has been pondering the same move for a couple of years now, I'd love the info!
