Hi All,

I am moving to OKC sometime this August after my wedding, from the San Francisco Bay Area. It will be a big change for me and my soon to be wife. I like to golf and I am looking for a fitness center. I also will know absolutely no one in Oklahoma. I figured a country club may be a good option to golf, workout and meet new people. Does anyone have any suggestions about Country Clubs (atmosphere, membership fees, sponsorship). I am in my to late 20's, any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Default A good club in the south metro...

I don't know what side of town your living in. NW OKC and Edmond are swimming with good clubs, If you are staying on the south side of town I would look at Belmar County Club I Love This Course. Its on the Moore/Norman border and is owned by an investment group headed up by OU football coach Bob Stoops, former OU coach Barry Switzer, and country music star Toby Keith. I had to play a tournament there put on by my fraternity, and I must say I was quite impressed with the place. Good course, nice clubhouse, most importantly not a very pretentious crowd so it would be easy to "make connections" with people.

I do believe that LadyRobyn did give a good list though. Those are all, from what I hear, very nice clubs. Okies do like their golf

Great thread. My husband and I were just talking about joining a country club once we get settled. Problem is, you need sponsorship. That can be a problem when you don't know anyone yet.

You are right. Sponsorship may be a problem. But I am thinking about living in Oak Tree up in Edmond. I don't know if it will help at all to live near the country club, but I imagine it will give us the opportunity to meet some neighbors that may be club members. I am fun, outgoing and courteous and so is my future wife so I hope we can maybe meets some folks that will be willing to sponsor us someday.

Does anyone have an idea of what the membership dues and initial deposits are like in OK. In California they range from about 60k all the way to 300K and then from 300 - 2500 a month from what I heard. I was hoping the clubs in OKC and Edmond may be more affordable.

Well, I don't golf so I don't know. I always thought if you bought a house in Oak Tree the membership came with it. Then the dues would be high of course. Oak Tree is a championship course, and is considered an "elite" place to live by most of us. A realtor in the area would know the costs.

There are other developments that have golf courses, like Coffee Creek for one. Those would be more reasonable in cost, but are just normal courses, not championship caliber.
