It's on SW 29th near Interstate 44. It's a safe area during the day, but I wouldn't go driving around after dark there on Saturday night.

Default grocery stores in Oklahoma

There are no quality grocery stores in OKC due to our backwards alcohol laws. The inability to sell even wine in a grocery store has been the reason that stores such as Whole Foods won't locate in Oklahoma.

We've already covered this on other threads. Selling alcohol has nothing to do with it. Alcohol is not allowed to be sold in supermarkets in NJ, yet there are an abundant number of "quality" grocery stores, including Whole Foods. The same goes for Pennsylvania. If there was a large enough popluation that desired the upper level supermarkets, they would open here.

BTW, we found a very good one in Yukon last week. It's a Homeland that was a Williams up until last November. Imported cheeses, fish counter, and other gourmet items. We were VERY happy.

nonsense. There's a Whole Foods in Tulsa that has been there for years (originally Wild Oats) and IN OKC, the Chinese market off NW 23rd and the Buy for Less at 23rd and Penn offer really good ethinc foods.....where else can you select which frog to butcher if you are going to have frog legs.....or be able to get 5 pounds of peeled garlic for under $10......or be able to get sweet grass or fresh mint or a selection of parsleys. In Eastern OK, both the Reasors and Food Pyramid have excellent selections of cheeses, sausages, and imported items....Reasors and Food Pyramid both carry buffalo as well as pork, beef and chicken. And fresh mozzarello in basil oil or sundried tomato oil.......both carry several nice rices besides basmati and jasmine.......we have good supermarkets in OK.

In fact, I would prefer the liquor stores to sell the alcohol. The larger liquor stores carry a far better selection of wines than they would if they had to compete with Wal-Mart, Homeland, and Walgreens. "Staple" vintages like 5 liter boxed wines and basic beers and hard liquors cover the "overhead" for many of the stores. Without those volume sales, the more esoteric items would not be either available or affordable.

Be very careful of unintended consequences when you ask the government to change....what we have may not be that bad, and what we get may be a lot worse.

I don't shop for things that I can easily find at local grocery stores but there are a few things I have to get online. I really enjoy growing my own sprouts but I had a very hard time finding the seeds locally. There are also some things for long term storage that I have to order online. I get a lot of these supplies at Walton Feed. I also keep a supply of MREs that I get when they are on sale online. I like to use butter powder in baking recipes. I use sour cream powder with chives on baked potatoes. The thing I like about this is that even after the can is opened, these items will last about a year in sealed containers. Several years ago I sold my large side by side refrigerator and picked up a small dorm fridge to save electricity. In order to make this work, I have to keep my refrigerated and frozen foods to a minimum.

Nothing like waking up a thread from 2009; however, I've sent the URL for your service to my daughter who lives in OKC.
