Lookikng into moving to Oklahoma City area (Norman, Edmond: house, work)

My husband and I are contemplating a move to the Oklahoma City area. We want to be between there and Weatherford, but aren't sure where we should be looking. I'll be working in the downtown OKC area and want to keep to about a 30 minute commute; and we're looking to spend about $200,000 on a house with a little horse property. No kids, so I don't care about schools. And is this a dry area, I've gotta have my vodka. Appreciate any information anyone's got.

Geez, Weatherford has to be at least 60 miles from OkC. If you're working downtown, are you sure that you want that much of a drive? As for Vodka, Oklahoma is mostly a wet state nowadays. It doesn't matter, you can get vodka at any liquor store. Good luck!

Well, Norman, Moore, and Mustang are the nicer and bigger cities on OKC's south side and all I would say in some points a 30 minute commute, and I-35 is right there (Norman and Moore) and you can hop on it to the DFW area and head west to Weatherford from there. But to be honest I don't know too much about the area.

Probably you should look into El Reno, Yukon, Bridgeport, Hinton. Depends on whether you want closer to Weatherford or closer to Oklahoma City. You could even consider Piedmont that's north of I-40 or Union City area that's south of I-40. Lot's of places to look along I-40.

There's actually an Oklahoma Vodka, Metore's, that's supposed to be very good.

Edmond and Deer Creek are nice areas north of OKC with 3 main highways to OKC (I-35, Hwy 77, and Hwy 74). The most growth in Edmond is on the west side of town but it is Deer Creek Schools. Both have good school districts but by the state scores Deer Creek may be a bit better.

You didnt mention where you were coming from but this area has all types of weather.
Freezing, Snow and Ice in winter... 100+ temps and dry (but humid) in summer... and a wet spring..

Infact we just received 3-5" of rain and flooded most of he area. Last week we had tornados hit the area also. Not trying to scare you but just making you aware so it isnt a big suprise when you get here.

Yeah, but you'll get tornados pretty much anywhere in the midwest U.S.. Oklahoma is just known for them because it's kind of in the heart of "Tornado Alley" and we can have some violent springs.

so i went on google earth and saw how far weatherford is from OKC and it said 1 hour and 16 mins..74 miles..towns inbetween there r El Reno, Hydro but thats a tiny town population was 1,060 in 2000...Bridgeport, Yukon which is in OKC..Bethany...El Reno is probaly your best beat and your commute would be about 40 mins...if you want to be more into OKC..what about Yukon which is about 30 mins..other towns in OKC r Norman, Mustang, Bethany, Edmond, Nichols Hills, Spencer, Del City, Midwest City, and Moore all probaly 30-50mins commute. but for a 30 min commute from Weatherford is not possible

Weatherford is a little far from the city for a daily commute. I agree that Mustang/Yukon area would work better overall. <Moderator cut: sorry, no advertising> There is property available in the price range you stated. Welcome to the OKC area.

Weatherford to downtown OKC is somewhere between 65 and 75 minuted depending on OKC traffic.

Realistically if you want to commute and live west of OKC on I-40. then Yukon and El Reno are your realistic choices. Yukon is a pretty nice suburb while El Reno is an old town that is a bit run down but is going to be one of the next towns to come up as people move further out of OKC. I would expect your commute from Yukon would be 10-15 minutes and it is another 10-15 minutes further west. El Reno is about 35 minutes to Weatherford.

I do that drive at least once a week. In fact I did it today. It took a little longer because the Highway Patrol pulled me over.
