Howdy,

I am moving from DFW. I am excited about getting out of the city. Looking at homes, Purcell looks like a nice place with an easy commute to Norman. What is life like in Purcell? What is its reputation, etc? Is it a peaceful rural town or is it plagued by gangs, etc? What is the culture like? There is not much online about it. I noticed the crime and poverty rate is a bit high but I also drove through some nice, well kept and established neighborhoods.

There are nice houses in Norman but they don't come with a lot of land, which is important to me. A big yard with a lot of privacy would be nice.

Anyways, thank you for your time.

Purcell is very nice for an idle little village. It has a few eating places but yes you will be going to Norman a lot. About a 20 minute drive to most points in Norman.

Noble is a little closer to Norman if you are going to the University but if you are trying to get to the west side of Norman Purcell is just as fast.

Two other places that are getting popular are Blanchard and Newcastle. They small but nice bedroom towns. A cross the river east from Purcell is Lexington. Basically the same town as Purcell except a different school system.

I like Purcell the best of the bunch because it has always been a town of some constitution. It's a county seat, has decent schools, I real downtown and smome nice horse country around it. But if you are working at OU or on the east side or north side of Norman I'd look hard at Noble. Noble has some additions in their school system that are in the trees (

Finally, east Norman past about 48th street has some country style subdivisions scattered out toward lake Thunderbird if you want trees. You would have Norman schools though.

Lots of drug addicts in Norman and weirdos(Salvation army "Hangout" near Norman Hospital and that "White Van" AKA
Jeffery Epstein kinda place on Alameda near the Homeland)

I even had my SUV stolen in Norman by a theft ring of druggies

Purcell is a typical small country town, Didn't see/hear many negative things on news or from people about Purcell ???

I lived in Purcell for several years. There is a definite cliquishness to the place, and a couple of families wield a lot of influence. If you "aren't from around here", many people view you with suspicion for no apparent reason. I would just live in Norman (which I have also done). The University of Oklahoma naturally has a major presence there, but the town has diversified. You are also much closer to Oklahoma City. Depending upon where you live, traffic can be a major deal of football Saturdays (at least when they begin allowing people in the stadium again).
