Smile Anyone have a child with autism currently attending Edmond Public schools?

My family is considering a move to OKC and we would more than likely settle in Edmond. I have a 13 y/o son with Autism, and would love to hear from parents of children with autism who currently have children in Edmond Public schools to find out if they are happy with the accomodations and programs available for children with Autism. I'd appreciate any information. Thanks so much.

I do not live in OKC or Edmond yet (planning to move in a year or two). I homeschool my severely autistic eleven year old daughter and plan to continue when we move. What you should know , if you do not already, is that Oklahoma is one of the states that has no medicaid waiver coverage for autism. When I called the state office I was told that my child has to have a primary diagnosis of mental retardation in order to recieve services through the medicaid waiver program. My daughter is not retarded, she is autistic. We still want to move to Oklahoma, but the fact that there are no state-provided services for autistic people just shocks me. I mean come on,one in a hundred and fifty children will be diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder. How can any state just ignore that?

If you do decide to move then good luck. Hopefully someone who is familiar with the special ed in Edmond will have some answers.
