I read about this Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce brochure on another forum and thought some here might find it interesting (size is 1.45 Mb):
http://www.okcchamber.com/media/PDFs/Retail2008.pdf (broken link)

In particular there is a table on page 5 that shows Oklahoma City's household income adjusted by cost of living and compared to other cities that I had never before seen:

City____________ Household Income_ Cost-of-Living Adjusted
Oklahoma City...... $38,977 .............. $42,879
New York City...... $60,017 ............. $29,391
Honolulu.............. $63,372 ............. $39,277
San Francisco...... $65,497 .............. $38,251
Philadelphia.......... $33,229 ............. $26,615
Milwaukee............ $41,308 ............. $41,129
San Diego ........... $59,591 ............. $40,517
Sources: Median Household Income Data from the ACCRA Cost of Living Index 2006
(sorry about the table formatting but I couldn't figure out how to do it on this forum)

Page 6 is entitled Urban Living and has a partial list of places to live downtown.

Page 7 has an interesting map that graphically presents population per 2006 census data with household income on a map of the metro area.

Yep. I agree 100%. Good article flintysooner; thanks for posting. What OkC did with MAPS is an example for the rest of the country. And a GOOD example to boot.

The cost of housing is far lower than the other places listed, so it shouldn't be a big surprise. Hopefully good growth will continue.
