I wonder if they cleared that with Gary England first?
No, no. The paper and Channel 9 are cutting ties, as far as I know. Channel 9 in OKC and Channel 6 in Tulsa are both sister TV stations and owned by the same people, and they have similarly designed websites, so now they are working together. They share reporters and footage and they work in conjunction on their newscasts. As far as The Oklahoman is concerned, I'm sure it was just a business decision.

Sneaks88 is on a distinguished road
I visited The Oklahoman a few months ago. I believe what they are doing is starting up their own online video news section. They gave us a tour of the new TV studio and we got to meet a couple of the newscasters. I have see a commercial advertising it as well.

Just curious, what's so bad about The Oklahoman? It's just another newspaper. How can a paper be bad? Other than monday's editions, which are pretty sparse.

I like the Oklahoman. Compared to the newspaper in the town I came from (BTW it was the newspaper of the state capital!), the Oklahoman is top notch. I don't see anything wrong with it.

Since I am more of a Democrat, the Oklahoman irritates me because they have a Republican bias. Of course, years ago the Oklahoman was much more biased. These days they seem to have toned the political side down a bit, or maybe I am just immune to it now. Whatever, I still read it every day.

Exactly.

Some people would complain that the Tulsa World has a liberal (Democrat) bias. I can see where that might be construed. The Oklahoman, though, was once called by the Columbia Journalism Review the 'Worst Newspaper in the United States'. Granted this was 1999, but the same ownership still rules (Gaylord). I don't much care for the Lortons either (The World's owner), so let's not make this a Tulsa vs OKC battle. I think both papers have their few good points.

Daily Oklahoman, Edward Gaylord, Worst Newspaper, by Bruce Selcraig - CJR, Jan/Feb 1999

I still don't see where the political slant would come into play except on the op/ed pages.

How does one apply a liberal/conservative slant to every day news such as traffic, weather, crime, etc?

I have also heard people on CDF rant about the Fox News Network being too liberal or whatever.

Guess I am not savy enough to pick up on it.

I don't pick up on it, either, and I'm pretty sure it has to do with coming from NJ, where the NYC and Philly news are VERY liberal. In fact the local NJ newspapers pick up most of their AP stuff and columns from the liberal national writers.

I read the paper online mostly to get local news, crime, weather etc. I gave up reading the op/ed section of the Oklahoman because it just makes me angry. These days, there are many sites I can read when I want to think about politics. Just reading the politics and other controversies forum, I can find all sorts of extreme viewpoints.

My favorite newspaper is/was the Sacramento Bee. Way-less judgemental and one-sided journalism than the Daily Joke.

Although, I have to admit, the Daily Okie HAS gotten a lot better over the last few years I am still not a fan of it.
