If you are RICH, if you like traffic jams, if you do not mind there are hardly any sidewalks, if you like strip malls and car lots, energy consuming, cheaply built Mcmansions and blatant prissy attitudes then I suppose that is the place for you.

I agree with you. I used to work in Edmond and I hated it. I guess it's not for everyone. Seriously, you should look at some of the other OKC suburbs, Yukon, El Reno, Mustang etc. I live in Mustang and love it. The only real traffic we have is on the corner of 152 and Mustang Road.

It's funny, I am getting ready to move to OKC, and spent last Saturday driving around to various areas in and around OKC. I went into the trip with a bias against Edmond - partially because of posts on this forum, but of all the places we visited, I liked Edmond the best. It might not be right for you, but I really liked what I saw. I found a subdivision with 1/2 acre lots and mature trees, and with three kids, I really appreciate the quality of the school district. Sure, I saw lots of cookie-cutter houses, but I guess that sort of thing just doesn't bother me. I'm looking forward to our move to Edmond.

Glad you liked it. As stated, it's not for everybody.
Where I live now, I'm on a half-acre and in a HUGE house that would have cost me twice as much if I would have bought in Edmond.
Of course, Mustang is a LOT smaller compared to Edmond. How do I know? I've already run out of "new" places to eat in Mustang.

So now they're selling kids along with the property?

I hope not - I sure don't need any more than I already have!

That's what I like about Mustang -- the small town atmosphere. I haven't run out of new places to eat, but we only moved here a few months ago. But -- there's always Yukon right up the street. You guys going to the Bean Supper at the Community Center Saturday?

I didn't know anything about the Bean Supper. Might have to check it out and then stay in a hotel for a couple of nights as to not toxify my house
Yeah there's Yukon for places to eat but since my parents live there and I grew up there, I've depleted my sources. All except for Poquito's Mexican food, I can eat there every day, and did back in high school

The Bean Supper is a fundraiser for the firefighters. You can buy the tickets at the firehouse for $7, or pay $8 at the gate -- it's at Wild Horse Park. The supper starts at 6:00 and at dusk there will be fireworks. Besides beans there's cornbread, potato salad, hot dogs, and I think chili -- not sure about that -- I glanced at the menu that was taped to the library door. DH and I are going, and my daughter will walk over when she gets off work at the pool.

Coming from SoCal too, I smile whenever I hear complaints about traffic in OKC. It's all relative I guess. To the original poster, some of your criticisms of Edmond apply to the whole darned state. Sidewalks are a rare thing out here, no matter where you go. And cookie cutter houses are a national problem.

If you like older, more unique, homes you might pay a visit to Guthrie, just north of Edmond.

I agree with you CG. We just put in a bid on a house in Coffee Creek. I think I looked at every house for sale in my price range and finally settled on a 2900sq ft home in CC. I really liked the acreage properties we saw, but being new to the area and not knowing anyone, wanted more of a neighborhood to move into. I figure if we still want that in a few years we can move, or even have a home built. Looking forward to being settled, as it has been a very hectic several months, but think I will really like Edmond. Also, I think Edmond is about as rural as I could actually handle. Would have also checked out Norman, but schools are a huge issue for us (our 5 yr old has asperger's), so we only looked in Edmond. BTW, people have been very nice and have not noticed ANY attitudes. Granted, it could not be worse than were I just moved in socal...lol.
