Sometimes teams just go for the name of the city. Most will probably just say "how is OKC doing" or even chant OKC. I am just happy we got a team. So many names have been slurped up by Texas!
Bennett does own the rights to the 89ers. It would be a nice surprise if he pulled that out of his bag of tricks.  |

Trying to get' em. People are on a list and the former Hornet season ticket holders have to find new seats. They call you, let you tour the Ford and you choose the seats. I am waiting to tour the nose bleed section!  |

The 89ers would be the perfect name for the team. I recall suggesting that myself several months ago in this forum. |

The fact he "owns the rights," which is really called owning a trademark, or not, is irrelevant. The name could be trademarked by a dozen people and still be used... Different sport, different league. Just think of the former Houston Oilers and the Edmonton Oilers, or the St. Louis Cardinals and the Arizona Cardinals. If trademark ownership mattered, one each of those names would need to be changed. |

I totally agree. I hope it happens, although many in OKC dont like the name. It would be strange to have the 66ers and the 89ers as the BBall teams in OK, so I doubt it will happen. |

It's the perfect name for the team and doesn't carry some stereotypical "thunder" or "oil baron" theme. BTW, when does OkC's schedule come out? I guess I should check the website. It will be really good to be able to root for someone other than The Mavericks.  |

If they are called the Barons I would be happy, but with the energy crisis right now it would **** off a lot of people. I hope you root for the team. I do consider it a team that should be celebrated by all of Oklahoma. When T-Town gets that NHL or MLS team (like I tell my buds from Tulsa) I will be visiting more often! |

Ya of course! I dont know why they are taking so long to throw out the name. Hopefully they will figure it out before the debut at the BOK center. |
