Fireflies
Hello all, me again! We are still very much enjoying Oklahoma City and can't believe we only have a week left here. The kids REALLY want to see some fireflies. Last night- we went out to Arcadia Lake thinking we might see some there, but to no avail. Do you know where we could see some fireflies? Are they even out this time of year?
Thanks so much!!!

I have lived in Oklahoma City since I was five (except for eight years I was on the coast), and haven't seen a firefly in years.

You will have to get out of the city where they spray for bugs. Out in the country they are all over the place.

Oh, okay, well thanks for the info! So, should we drive toward Amarillo? Or should we head up North-ish? Or more East? (we are willing to drive a ways!)
Thanks again!

You can see fireflies in certain large parks in the city. The parks along Grand Blvd. in Nichols Hills always give a wonderful firefly experience.

I live just north of Edmond in Logan county and will usually see lightning bugs, however this year I have not seen as many as in years past. Perhaps it is a little late in the season for them, though I could not find any info on line about thier active months. I would figure Lake Arcadia would be a great place to see them and have seen them there while camping.

June seems to be the big month for lightening bugs. They're very rare this late in the summer.

We have lots of fire flies in our back yard and we live in Edmond. The little neighbor girl catches them in her little bug container all the time.
