I've heard that excuse for decades and don't buy it. Many natural disasters have no warning. Obviously, you have never been to California.

Such as? And what are the warning signs of an impending earthquake? How soon do they get the warning out to the general public?
Do they set off sirens? Announce it on the news?

I've visited California more than once. Maybe you haven't been to Oklahoma during storm season and got annoyed by all the weather warnings on TV for counties not close to you. So once again earthquakes are about the only natural disaster that doesn't come with a warning unless your pets act funny before hand.

Yes thats the think with quakes. The northridge quake was just early enough that the freeways weren't bumper to bumper or the bridges that fell would have landed on cars. I live in an older apt with questionable land surface... maybe landfill. Ithink like everyone, I lay there wondering if it was the big one when it didn't stop right away.

and while my dog woke up and ran just before the rumble it was more like seconds so it wasn't such a good warning system.

Ever since the quake they are pounding it in that everyone needs emergency supplies and a kit. I suspect that when the disastors are more frequent and give you lead time they are more real. I'm pretty sure when the big one does come 90 percent of the people here will be clueless

I won't be... moving to OK at the end of the month

This is my house, which sits in Oklahoma City, which is in the state of Oklahoma, which means I have been to Oklahoma. This house was struck by lightning. My wife, our three dogs and I were all in it at the time.

Guess what. You don't hear me scream "ooo, lightning. I'm afraid of it, so I'm leaving Oklahoma."

Same for earthquakes. They are unpredictable, yes. However, so is a lot of natural disaster. Running away or saying you don't like a place just because of a chance of getting nailed by a disaster is ludicrous. I still don't buy it.

Also. Most people who give that earthquake excuse have never been to California... And are quite prejudiced against it.

It would be interesting to see the study that you made your bet on.......my personal prejudice lies more with the people than with the potential for natural disaster

Oh, that's horrible...Did this just happen? You have a beautiful house and I sure hope you were well insured. I'm sorry for this disaster in your life...We just never know when it will happen to any of us..

It happened in May. And yes. We have full replacement insurance and have already settled and are planning a rebuild. The part of your comment that I made bold is my point on all disaster.

My "study" was the fact I am middle aged and have heard countless people in this part of the country bad mouth California. One of the most common excuses was the earthquakes.

Your last comment proved one of my points. Not a thing wrong with most of the people. At least they are not a bunch of hicks like Texas.
