Default Planning to move from Hawaii to Norman, OK

Aloha from Hawaii,

My family and I have been talking about moving to Norman, OK. We have been there 2 years ago to visit family (husband and 2 boys 4 yrs and 1 yrs old) and we fell inlove with Oklahoma. With the cost of living here in Hawaii rising and my husband being laid off from his job. I think its time for us to look into getting off this island. We was born and raised in Hawaii and our family is here but I think its time for a change.

Could someone tell me how the public schools are in Norman?

Thank You,

lreyes

I don't live in Norman, but I'm sure someone on here will answer your question soon. I wanted to welcome you to the OK forum. Norman is a very fine town, with the University of Oklahoma being a very strong presence. If you've visited here before, I'm sure you know that.

Good luck with your move, and again, welcome

Not too sure about the public schools but I think they are pretty good. I mean I don't know any statistics or anything but I've never heard anything bad about Norman schools.

And btw, so you know how Oklahoma weather is right? If not your in for quite a shock. Very, very different from Hawaii.

If you look you will find quite a few Hawaiians in OK. My grandfather was from Maui and several of his nephews and nieces are in the Choctaw area.

Yes, we are aware of the change in weather in OK. We actually experienced the winter storm that went through OK 2 years ago. That was very unexpected because we didn't have any winter attire but we survived. We got to see snow, that was very nice. Here in Hawaii we don't get to see the change in seasons because its like summer all year long. It would be nice to see Spring, Summer, Fall, & Winter.

First off, welcome to the forum lreyes! Right now, those of us in Texas and Oklahoma are experiencing a brutal heat wave, so I'd suggest you hold off just a tad longer until it cools down.

BTW, go to GreatSchools.net to look at Norman's public schools.

I wish you and your family the very best of luck in your move. Bring some of that Hawaiian culture to Oklahoma!

From my experience, Norman schools are ok. Probably middle of the road - not the best in the nation, but certainly not the worst!

Norman's a great place, welcome
