The places you mention are not in OKC, they are separate towns surrounding OKC. I'm not familiar with Midwest City, but El Reno, Edmond and Norman are all "safe." I live in Mustang, which is a fine town, as is Yukon which is a little north of us.

That really requires a subjective answer. I think Mustang is the best place to live. The poster before me apparently thinks Norman is. In my opinion, the best places are: Norman, Moore, Yukon, Mustang, Edmond. Those are the towns to the south and west of OKC (actually, Edmond is north). I'm not familiar with the towns on the east side, but someone may be able to help there. It also depends on where you will be working. Some commutes are easier than others.

DO NOT move to El Reno. I used to live there and I've never seen so many people on CRANK, it's as if it was the official pass time. I know that statement will probably upset a lot of people but it was a huge shock to me. I've lived in LA and I saw more people on drugs in El Reno. I've also never seen such an out right dividing line between the "good" part of town and the "slum" side of town. BTW it really is "over the tracks".
Anywhere else is better.
Good luck!

Where are you moving from, and what are you used to? Do you like diverse areas, or are you more comfortable with "your own kind", so to speak?
I think Norman is fabulous, it has almost an international feel you only find in East coast cities with people from just about everywhere, but you expect this in a college town. The west sides of OKC are less diverse and more prone to tornados. Our storms tend to come from the west. Bethany is a nice little community completely surrounded by OKC. My community, Edmond, is a rapidly growing area with large areas of expensive, if unsold, housing. The school system is highly rated, but that's useless knowledge if you don't have kids. The older part of Edmond is more diverse and more reasonably priced, with less "cookie-cutter" McMansions and more bungalow-style housing.
It's hard to make a blanket statement out of any community and how it will suit you, without knowing what your own needs are. If you have enough money, just about any area is a "good" area!

I would NEVER live in Edmond, given a choice. Too many really nice big houses, lots and lots of newer upscale cars (MB's BMW's, Lexus, etc......I saw a Maserati there once when I was doing an appraisal there). Then they have prohibitions about having live stock in back yards (where would I keep my cows, my horse, the goats, the sheep, chickens and geese?) Nope........give me a nice little place in the country. Let the Maserati crowd live in places like that..........

Don't let the Edmond LIES get into your head. I grew up in with a single parent on disability in Edmond and I fit in just fine.
There a a lot of nice apartments in and around Edmond. Its close to the Quail Springs area which means a mall and TONS of restaurants to choose from.
The whole "Edmond is stuck up" thing is competely ridiculous and has been created in the minds of other Oklahoma City residents to make themselves feel more "down to earth".
