I keep thinking about this thread and right now, I'm out in Sacramento teaching soldiers...
Even Raley's out here out-classes the supermarkets in Oklahoma. I would be happy if there were a Trader Joes, Whole foods or something of the like because I'm SOOOOO tired of the two places in Mustang (Homeland and Wal-Mart). If I buy meat, it expires in a day or two or if I buy fresh veggies or fruit, they won't last more than a day or two. Before you comment on my refrigerator being crap, it's actually a year old
But in Mustang we have Cossey's Meats....THE BEST

N8tive_Okie, I'm out near Mustang as well! I agree that the walmart sucks! I hate how quickly the produce goes bad. I've also bought stuff from there that's expired, eww!

I need to check out cossey's. Is it reasonably priced? I personally prefer the Homeland on Czech Hall- the one that was an Albertson's. It's still nice but a bit pricey and we're on a budget with 2 kids in diapers. Crest up at Hefner and Rockwell was good and I still LOVE Super Target but hate driving up there to crazy quail springs area.

There's a fairly new Super Target in Yukon on Garth Brooks Blvd. about 1/2 mile south of I-40.

Unfortunately it is NOT a Super Target- I believe that might of been the original plan but it's a regular Target with limited groceries- I mean it's great for dry goods, diary and frozen but there's nothing "fresh" (produce, deli, meats).
With kids it's a pain to have to go to two different stores a week but I do shop there occasionally, esp when we need clothes:-)

We buy meat all the time, from every grocer imaginable including super wally, and it doesn't expire in a day or two . We have one of those deep freezer units.

As for produce, this is Oklahoma. We are not never going to compare to SoCal or other areas. That is why we hit farmer's markets and grow tomatoes. And thankfully, a friend with a garden is always good to have.

I guess we all have our own preferences and for me any grocery store will do, except Homeland which seems SO high. And it seems the small mom n pop grocery stores in small towns have to raise their prices to make a living.

I would rather give my money to a small grocer than a super wally, but that is just me.

Oh, so that's the difference. Not being familiar with "super" targets, I just assumed if they had a grocery department that's what made them "super." I did go in there once and when I found out they didn't have anything fresh, I didn't bother going back. I agree, going to more than one store is not what I care to do on a regular basis.

Default Lack of quality

Even a halfway clean grocery store would be more appealing to me, with a larger selection of cheese and produce. The Farmer's Market could also do a lot better in those departments.

If anyone grows tomatoes, I'd love to buy some when in season. I can't stand those engineered green and yellow ones in the corporate chains.

The rumor about Whole Foods coming to Chesapeake's (Aubrey's) new shopping center (Classen Curve) is apparently false:

Whole Foods rumor was a false alarm (http://blogs.journalrecord.com/persquarefoot/2009/12/01/whole-foods-rumor-was-a-false-alarm/ - broken link)

So, it's superwalmart or supertarget for now....

There is a Whole Foods Market in Tulsa if you want to take a trip up the turnpike on the weekend.

Anner's Wellness Works is also good.

You might also try nature's supply in Stillwater, although I've never been there.

Yeah there is one in Tulsa. But honestly, I don't think Whole Foods is all it's cracked up to be. We used to call it Whole Paycheck when I lived in CA. OKC will be much better off when Crest gets its act together and puts their high end store on the south side into business. Who knows...maybe Crest will turn into the next HEB (Texas chain). Probably not but a locally based store with high quality produce, meats and a good selection of other groceries is what is needed..Crest can do it. Whole Foods meets the criteria but you pay a lot for the name and "atmosphere".

I much prefer HEB, HEB Plus, and HEB Central market in Houston/Dallas/Austin to Whole Foods. And, don't get me started on Trader Joes...hopefully one will come to the south someday!
