My name is Ben, I'm a 30 yr old male moved from Michigan to Texas. Fort Worth area in 08 but now getting older and Texas huge population boom. I'm considering moving to the okc or surrounding area's. Really a couple things I have concerns on is, how is the job out look in the area? Currently I'm a quality control inspector and been for 10 years. also I've heard of Dl fee every 4 years and high taxes. I'm a Christian man so churches an like mined community is important. I don't know exactly what I'm looking for to be honest lol. My friends here want me to stay but I feel the lord is drawing me to the area if that makes any sense. thanks all for any and all input God bless.

Instead, of high taxes, higher home and auto insurance rates will be more noticeable. But the state sales tax may go up by by a penny after November. Then unlike in Texas, there is the Oklahoma state income tax.

Home/car insurance is not more expensive. Just the opposite. Do the numbers. A 200k home in DFW and income of 50-75k (You can pull millage and tax info on-line). OK state income versus real estate tax will about break even.

Take a couple of days off and visit. Churches are everywhere so visit over a week end.

How I did my numbers is my home and auto insurance combo went up by $1000 last year. So I had to shop for another insurance policy to knock about $1000 off it.

If you're looking for a safe all-bills-paid apartment, you should check out an OKC apartment locator.

So you're saying that home/auto insurance in Oklahoma is more expensive than Texas solely because YOUR insurance went up? There seem to be some logical fallacies in that statement. I'm in OKC and my home and auto insurance are both cheaper than a few of my friends who live in Fort Worth and Houston.

Not sure how the job market is for a QC inspector.... if it's in the petroleum industry I would say not very good, other industries are likely fine.

Yes DLs are renewed every 4 years with a small fee.

Churches will be no problem... they are everywhere.

Hello Ben! I'm a Michigander who also spent the last two years in TX and am in the process of relocating to OK - and love it! There is surprisingly so much to do here, great housing and development options, many wonderful churches, and the best us that Oklahomans are far friendlier than Texans. I felt "at home" the second day! Just stay out of Moore - Tornado Town, USA. Give it a go! I think you'd love it here.

Thanks all for your help I really appreciate it. Yeah before I make a decision to move I will definitely be doing more research myself, I will be taking y'alls advice and checking out the area for sure at some point. I might just be staying in Texas I'm not really sure, what God has in store for me here but through much prayer I'll get it all figured out. Thanks again and God bless you all
