Need help renting a house in Oklahoma City with not so good credit
Hello,
Me and finance moved from WI to Oklahoma City 2 years ago. We have been renting since we arrived. We have a good rental history but both of us have a bankruptcy that goes back 4-5 years. We have offered to pay an extra month's rent and we even have a recommendation letter from our current landlord but all of the realty agency's here base everything solely on credit history and nothing else. Together we bring over 4200.00 bucks home a month and we can't understand why it's so difficult to find a place to rent here. If anyone knows a rental agency or a landlord that's willing to work with people with previous credit issues in the Oklahoma city area please let me know. Also if anyone has any advice for us please let us know. We are desperate at this point.

This is just a guess, but I think with credit being so difficult to obtain now, potential landlords may be reluctant to rent to unmarried couples. I have dealt with the renting market, and if the couple breaks up some landlords have been stuck with neither party willing to continue the lease. In the case of a married couple, that is usually worked out in the divorce courts.
I know this sounds discriminatory, but unless you can prove it -- and with credit hard to obtain today anyway -- they can continue to use your credit history to deny you the rental.

Colleen I think you are right, add to this a bankruptcy everyone is going to start viewing things in a different light.

Thank you both very much, I never looked at it that way but it makes a lot of sense.
