Do You Think Piedmont Will Get A Wal*Mart?
Because the city of 6,000 has to drive to Okc to get groceries. And The city is expanding. They have 800 homes going up in the future. And that will raise their population. The school will be 5a next year.
Piedmont needs walmart. Or a Crest.
Whats your opinion?

Absolutely. The only question is when.

No!! All that would happen is they would get more pot holes. There is already a Dollar General in Piedmont. If people need more groceries it's not that far a drive to WalMart.

Piedmont needs to set a presidence and build a town center that has all of the conviniences of a Wal-Mart but owned locally. They could have a little cafe, dry cleaners, grocery store, pharmacy, and other stores in a central location and it could be an actual downtown for Piedmont.

And that is 100% correct. And well needed.
But the question is when this movement will take place?

Piedmont's traditional downtown area doesn't contain enough availiable land to do this. The next new commercial area is already being built up at the corner of Piedmont and Edmond Road. Eventually you will see all the development being done on the eastside of Piedmont Rd between Monroe St. and Edmond Road.

Piedmont needs to stay Piedmont, IMHO
I'm tired of all the "rural" areas becoming major shopping venues, just like what happened to Yukon and now Mustang.
My kid tells me all the time how she thought we moved to the "country" to get away from it all, and now everywhere we turn, there's a retail chain. So to combat that, we spend time on the weekends at my ranch near Seiling. Now THAT'S country folks.

I wish Piedmont would stay the way it used to be. I own a house there and visit 3 to 4 times a year. Used to be a quite place out in the country but within easy driving distance of everything else. Now just way too many people are moving out there. Once housing prices rebound a bit I'm selling. I'm probably just by another place in Sitka or Skagway. Just something relaxing about small town living.

You all are correct and I respect your opinions.
But since the town is starting to get big/bigger. They'll eventually need to build some sort of food or shopping source. Also; you are right it should just be how it used to be. But developers are building like crazy. I miss the old..."Piedmont".
Haha.

I have lived here in Piedmont since 1996. In the past 12 years, there has been growth, but it pales in comparison to other communities like Edmond, Mustang or Yukon. A number of stores have tried to get established here but for some reason ran into too much "red tape" from the city government.
Since the recession started, housing starts have slowed and sales of existing homes have come down alot as well. There still is plenty of a country feel to Piedmont, I think there will be for at least a few years to come. They are putting in a Walmart grocery store at the corner of NW Expressway and Piedmont Road, I hear there will be a restaurant in that same complex too.
The grocery store will cut down on an additional 10-15 miles extra one would have to normally drive to the city, so that will be a welcome addition, even if it is a Walmart
What kind of progress I don't like that's happening here... OG&E are putting in these 115 foot power poles that will be linking the wind farms near Fort Supply with the main center in OKC.. these towers will only be about 200 yards from my property.. I'm not enthused. I have one of the best views in the area. But at least I know that no other houses will go up close by to my house. This has been a real irritant to the affected folks of Piedmont.
