Newlyweds- advice for areas in OKC/Edmond please?
Hello,
My husband and I recently moved to OK from Houston and are renting for now as we look at the housing market here. In Houston, we were looking in an area called the Heights, where many other newlyeds we knew were moving for the historic and/or historic restored homes in the safer areas (it was a mixed bag zone, but not streeet by street). We know OKC and Edmond are different cities fomr Houston, and it may not apply here, but I thought I'd ask anyway: Does anyone know of a similar area in Edmond or OKC?
We love older homes, but having some neighbors at a similar point in life is more valuable to us if it comes to a choice. Also we undestand the pitfalls of those pretty homes and are interested if there is an area where people have been rennovating while maintaining the character of the homes. Thanks for any advice!
Sorry so long- my first forum post ever- I won't be so long in the future!!

I don't know much about the housing in Edmond, but in OK City one of the main historic housing editions is right there in the area next to the state capitol. Unfortunately, it's a pretty high crime area. I'm sure someone else will come along and be able to help you a little more. Blessings.

Edmond has an area of smaller, older homes. Whether or not there are alot of newlyweds there I do not know. I am not aware of a certain place that they seem to move to. They are good starter homes though. The area is between Kelly and University Dr (by UCO) and 15th street to Danforth Rd.

If I were going to move into the OKC area I would probably look in the area north of Shepherds Mall northwest of NW 23rd and Penn.........it is close to the Asian and Hispanic ethnic communities and grocery stores, it is not far from the center of town, brick town and other "hot spots," it has relatively easy access to the interstates so accessing the entire community is quick and easy, and the houses are little doll houses. Look on Realtor.com for zip code 73107. You will find houses between $90k up past $250k.

Miller would be a great choice. Some other nice neighborhoods would be Venice, Crestwood, Cleveland, Gatewood, Putnam Heights, Paseo. I am a Realtor so if you would be interested in me setting up a personal website with all the homes available in these areas let me know.
You can search homes here
Set the maximum year built at 1940 and you will see some of these areas
