Default Private Christian Schools OKC area ~ Need info

Our family is considering a job offer in OKC. We are very interested in any information regarding "Christian" schools in the OKC area. We are from a small town and are looking at the smaller towns in the outskirts of OKC. A school for our young children and a home church will play a big role in the purchase of a home.

Currently, we have a child in PreK with the A Beka cirriculum and would love to find a school that uses the same cirriculum. However, the school standards and philosphy would trump the cirrculum preference.

Any suggestions or feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I saw a school from the 40 FWY as I drove by the other day that had something about A Beka curriculum on the marquee. I believe the school is in OKC, possibly Yukon. Yukon is a city of 20,000 just west of OKC.

Oh boy -be glad you can reach a true native to OKC. First of all there are three huge christian private schools...some the best in the nation. Casady would be my first choice. The Campus is situated around a beautiful lake...my sisters who are both debs loved this school and Casady has a monster alumni program-check out the website- just type in casady and you will be blown away. Mcguiness a larger school(catholic) is also a great choice-although parties are more frequent with the students. Mt. Saint Marys is oklahomas oldest private school founded like in 1910 or something-beautiful. I graduated from heritage hall a private independent prep school that has a rivalry with Casady- The Polo bowl is an annual football game played between the two. All of these schools are prek to 12th. All in metro OKC. You mentioned outskirts and stuff- dont worry OKC itself is so large it has rural areas-you might just have to drive sum. Smaller christian schools exist but usually dont pass 5th grade-they are also abundant in the metro. all of these schools are located within the core of OKC.

You did not mention whether you wanted a Christian vs a Catholic School - I believe Cassidy, Mount St Mary & Bishop McGuinness are all Catholic Schools. I would recommend Southern Nazarene University School for Children. It is a small school, it does end at the fifth grade and they don't use the A Beka curriculum. BUT the teachers all have masters degrees and they are hand picked from the University by the director. They have a student to teacher ratio of 10 to 1. They are constantly evaluating each student in their placement to move them forward as they improve or to do extra work on problem areas. They strive to focus on all areas of education. they use the college campus gym and music facilities. Part of their focus is to teach them HOW to think - not what to think. It is located in Bethany, one of the small localities inside Oklahoma City on the Northwest side. It is a nice, clean community. We looked and quite a few places for our kids, and I think we definitely made the best choice.
