Default The Tower Theater

This is really important to the revitalization of uptown OKC...It will be a great venue for bands etc.

Tower Theater History

The Tower Theatre, built in 1937, originally was a 1500 seat, ornate auditorium had a complete working stage, pipe organ, and billowing, scarlet waterfall stage curtains. It was also one of the first suburban theaters in Oklahoma City and one of the largest suburban theaters in the region. In the early sixties the theatre was given a deluxe renovation---70mm, rocking chair seats, very plush and very comfortable. Roadshow attractions were the staple with "Sound of Music" running at the Tower on a reserved seat basis for almost two years. "The Sand Pebbles" and "Cleopatra" also played at the Tower during those roadshow- reserved seat days.

This all sounds good, but is it REALLY happening. I've was there yesterday 7/13/09 and it's a huge dump. Parking lots not fit to park on across the street or in the back. Sign is half way falling off. Building looks gutted. But no one is working on it. Does anyone have a clue as to what is REALLY happening to the Tower Theater.... And it also has a CURRENT for Sale Listing of $1,000,000. So is is being renovated or SOLD?

Looks like mine is the ONLY Posting about the so called Tower Theater renovation since April 2007, must be a dead project. I've tried to contact the people about using the Venue in May of 2010, but no one replies! Guess it's just up for SALE! So much for any renovation project, just another pie in the sky SCAM!

Marquee revamp conveys sign of Uptown’s progress in Oklahoma City
BY STEVE LACKMEYER
Published: July 8, 2009

The smashed marquee at the Tower Theater is gone and the letters are back in place — a hint that renovations are finally getting under way at the Uptown landmark.

"Dillon said the $2.5 million renovation will include the facade of the theater and adjoining storefronts. Talks, meanwhile, are under way with potential restaurant operators for the first floor. Future use of the former theater space won’t be decided until a restaurant operator is chosen, Dillon said."

I have tried for over a month to get the owners to call me about a Barry McGuire "Trippin The Sixties" Concert I'm promoteing but they do not return calls. I really thought they were interested in promoting the Tower Theater as a 1500 Seat Venue?
