Employment in OKC .. surrounding areas .. EDmond
Hi everyone ...
I have been reading the forum and trying to stay up on all the post. I visited Edmond/OKC for the first time about 5 years ago and fell in love with it there, I couldnt tell you what it is .. but there is just something about it there that makes me feel good. Anyhow .. My husband and I are now considering moving there from MI ... we would be staying in Edmond at least until we could get on our feet .. he has an aunt and uncle that live there.
We both have decent paying jobs here .. so we would not be moving due to lack of employment but more for personal reasons. I have been working in the healthcare industry for 12 years ... billing, verification, registration, insurance customer service etc ... I did earn my Bachelor last year in Organizational Management .. although, Im not sure that means much today. I unserstand that are many healthcare facilites there .. Im not to concerned with me finding employment .. however my husband does not have the college education and is has been working at a well known juice factory for 13 years ... we are worried that he may not be able to find anything down there .. he also has a history with body work (cars) he can hang drywall .. remodeling .. etc ... Right now, we are making under 90,000. Can anyone recommend places that we may look for him .. how are the staffing services there?
We have four children so im afraid that to much of a cut in our finances would cause us to not be able to make it happen ..
We did decide that I would go first, find employment and then he would come later .. we have a house to try and sell here, afraid with the economy here we will not be making any money from that!
any advice is welcome .. thanks for reading

I lived in Edmond for several years and just loved it! It seems as though we are always short on healthcare workers in the metro, so you probably won't have trouble finding work, though I'm not sure what your specific job experience is. Edmond has a small Hospital at 2nd street and Bryant, and they are building a new one off of the Interstate, but I'm not sure when it will be finished. Edmond is a little more expensive than other parts of the metro area, but I always felt very safe living there and the schools are great! My only advice is to watch out for the cops, because they will pull you over for just about anything  |

I know AAA is building a call center in the area. That might be something your husband could look into. I have no idea when it will be completed and operating, however.

I think there were some major cutbacks at Baptist Integris Medical Hospital just a few weeks ago, so a lot of people locally just dumped on the healthcare market.

You know things are bad when healthcare starts getting cuts ...
