You haven't met the right Yankees. We are no more less disingenious than some of the Okies I met when i lived Grand Lake for 25 years. People are people. The only people who are paid to label others are called professionals. Otherwise it is just one man's opinion.

This happy old lady out here in the boonies is certainly NOT a conservative, nor a Baptist! And, please don't assume that all OKies are religious freaks and stupid.

There's lots of Okies who have gotten an education OUTSIDE of Oklahoma. We are aware of the f'ing attitudes of a few heavy-handed, politically biased, education empty, unsactramonious crap that live in La-La- land around here.

Seems my friends are a lot like me, and are very UNHAPPY with this BS that's being thrown at us about how UNFAITHFUL, Satainist, and LOW CLASS we are if we don't love the Republican Big-Wigs. And, by the way, none of my friends have ever been in jail, receive your free hand-out. And, we sure don't play a round of golf in Cancun at the spur of the moment either.

For interest, please go to the New York Post website and read the latest. In my opinion, it just the typical political crap that happily defines America now, and we can only presume which side of the toilet it came from.

Oh by the way, I was once called a "Communist" by my own brother, while in MY own home. Now, he's regretting his comments made about 8 1/2 years ago, especially since he lost his ass to the Oil and Gas Banking Swiss Industry people". My heart bleeds. Yep, he's retired military and he thought his great leader would look out for him. Wierd, though, he's hoping he can hang on to the rest of what he has until the Republicans get back in control again! Now, he travels to where he can get to in his travel trailer. Things are better for HIM now, cause the cost of a gallon of gas went down. Anybody that can't figure that out is really needing to do some research!

There's some people in Oklahoma who really do care about this state and country, but it doesn't seem our votes counted at the voting machines??????

DUH! I guess my answer is: If you have money, lots of money, move to the EDMOND, OAK TREE or NICHOLS HILLS area around OKC and you will always get the hand-out to you, if you don't go to a county fair and try to meet some hard-working farm people who don't ask for a damn thing!

Default Oklahoma's Progressive State

I also remember how one of my colleagues was Mormon, and he used have people question his religion and accuse him of not being a Christian. I live in Phoenix and we have a lot of Mormons here. The Mormons are also conservative but unlike the Baptists, are respectful and don't tell people they need to be saved. That's not going to change there because it's a part of their culture.

Progressive compared to what/where? Please explain.

And one other thing-for everyone who hates that this state is conservative and full of Baptists-where do you want us to go (and, yes, I realize the obvious thing that came to mind)?!

People spout off about diversity and tolerance all the time but throw a white, Baptist, conservative at them...

We have to live somewhere, people. You can't just get rid of us. Sorry.

I would like for you to define what you feel progressive is before I can give you a good answer.

But for now, refer back to one of my previous posts about people in Oklahoma City pushing for growth and creating an environment for people to better enjoy.

It isn't about liberal or conservative, or where people received their education, it's about the movers and shakers in Oklahoma City taking action. Just in case you haven't noticed, Oklahoma City has been a Sim City of sorts for the past ten years.

I agree, too many people assume all Oklahomans are religious freaks and stupid. But please understand there is a difference between down-to-earth Christians and religious freaks.

I received my education in Oklahoma, and a very good education at outstanding schools (I admit, I was born and raised in Edmond), and what is sad is no one would ever guess I am from Oklahoma. It truly depends on who you are and how you desire an education. Students are failing everywhere, not just Oklahoma.

By the way, I love your screen name. My parents were hippies. Well, they still are, just now grandparents

I, for one, don't assume anything of the kind. Part of my family has roots in OK and west Texas, and my father and several of his siblings went to OU, then on to the Naval Academy or joined the Army. But if I were to judge OK by the most recent Okies I met before moving here, I'd have run the other way as fast as possible - they were both major coke heads, which might be why they were in AK instead of OK. But they didn't do very well there, either. People tend to find what they are looking for, I think. The most rabid religious fanatics I've ever come across were the street preachers in downtown Seattle. Otherwise, people are people, no matter where or what their religion or lack thereof. What I do like about the people in OK is that so far, the ones I've met have been friendly and helpful and generally live-and-let-live. I'm sure there must be others that are unfriendly and nosy or bossy etc, but so far they've left me alone.
